Re: Engine Removal

It is a bit like cutting and welding drop links really. I see no similarity whatsoever. Welding is a permanent action of joining two metals that has been used for centuries. Propshafts are cut and shut. Driveshafts are cut and shut. Droplinks are cut and shut. All professional solutions to a proble...

Re: Engine Removal

I agree with Paul it is a bodge....... It is a bit like cutting and welding drop links really but if it works is it then not a bodge? As a fully qualified engineer I admit I have used sealants and they have worked, I have also cut and welded droplinks. Suggestions are only that they are not compulso...

Re: LED Rear spolier - ebay.com

Come on now Peter don't argue with Paul, he knows everything about MK1's and it would seem cars in general, the fact he does not appear to have any formal engineering qualifications is totally irrelevant, apparently experience is everything :D Ignoring his advice is practically criminal, hang your h...

I live in Hoylandswaine and have just taxed my car for the summer so I will pop round. Although it will take me longer to get the car out of the garage than to actually drive there :D

Re: Radiator Mods

Also, Jimi is a clever guy and he has put a fan back on so go figure. You can see which way I lean on this subject. Jimi is indeed a clever man, so are you suggesting that anyone who removes their fans is stupid? I really despair with the level of intelligence on this forum sometimes, I have had a ...

Re: Radiator Mods

Try here for rads http://www.buypartsby.co.uk/radiators-buy.php I don't come on here much anymore but the arrogance of Mr Woods has prompted me to add my opinion :D A MK1 will not overheat if you remove the fans and take it on a track, there will be much more air passing through the radiator at 60m...

Don't worry I will , starting with a video tomorrow showing what utter tripe this is... Oh and tommy, I've forgotten more than you will ever know. Leave the rad fans off, classic! Unbelievable. I don't come on here much anymore but the arrogance of Mr Woods has prompted me to add my opinion :D Fans are not needed in the UK YES THEY ARE!, i think Toyota might strongly disagree with you as well after all they designed it with fans, now why did they do that? folks do not listen to this absolu...

The 6mm bolts that are used to hold the front end on are not metric fine they are normal 6mm, I used stainless when I did mine they cost £3 for 30 from my local engineering supplies shop :thumleft:

Re: How complicated to replace front drop-links?

As you have new droplinks and are throwing the old ones away I would just grind them off. I did mine recently and managed to get the bottom nuts undone but the top ones were solid, 2 minutes with the grinder and it was off :thumleft:

Thanks Jimi.

Re: ARB Mounting corrosion - with pics (hopefully)

The point was that an MOT person can not fail a car if an ARB is not present as they do not affect the road worthiness of the car. They can: http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual_240.htm See section G2 This is actually quite interesting and having done a google on it, you are correct. The interesting thing...

Re: ARB Mounting corrosion - with pics (hopefully)

Thanks for the suggestions everybody, I've been in touch with Tommy (coverco) and he's going to take a look at it with me. No captive nuts eh... so why won't the bolt come out? Maybe just needs a bit of brute force after all that's dead metal now. Planning to replace all bolts that are removed, is ...

Re: ARB Mounting corrosion - with pics (hopefully)

you could actually remove the ARB for an MOT if you wanted. Technically you can't. A missing ARB on an axle that should have one is a valid reason for failure. However, whether the tester is clued up enough to notice you've removed it is a different matter ;) If I were you I would not buy a Superch...

Re: MK1 "Lights On" Reminder buzzer

Tommy I have an extra buzzer ( I bought 2) if you want it ? I'll need to look into the wiring, it's quite possible it can be retro fitted to the 1a On the 1b it only alarms when the lights (sides or mains) are on and a door is open. shouldn't be to hard to figure out for a 1a I'll look into it. Jim...
