Re: ProThane Urethane Bushing Kits - twosrus - us site

Import tax doesn't apply under a certain level IIRC and the guys at twosrus don't put the price you paid on the label. When I ordered a set of droplinks the value on the pack was stated at about $60 (price I paid was $100)!

Nice :D

Re: Stuck on suspension! Quoted £356 + VAT!

Price looks about right but you can get a set of KYBs shock absorber inserts for slightly less!

The shocks won't lower your car, it's the springs that reduce ride height.

The labour they've quoted seems pretty good if you ask me, it took me at least 2hrs per suspension strut to swap mine!

Re: Induction Air Leak

There aren't that many vacuum hoses on the Mk1, I'd be inclined to buy a couple of metres of hose and replace the lot! They've got to be getting on a bit anyway, do them one at a time and it's a doddle! :D

Re: How much leg room in MK1

I'm 6ft 4in (13 stone tho) and fit very comfortably in my Mk1, I do have a slightly smaller steering wheel which helps things a bit. I have to take the drivers side T-top out for track days as I don't fit very well with a helmet on!

So the ride height doesn't need to be practical!

If you would like a nose round my Mk1 (I don't think Dorking is too far from Guildford) you're welcome, I've done a bit to it so might give you some ideas (what not to do)!

Re: Mk1 - new owner - must do mods?!

Must say I'm very impressed with my Toyo Proxes but I don't have a lot of experience with different tyres.

Would agree with Wayne, get the rust sorted. But then do the suspension, it's not too expensive for a set of KYBs and some springs. Are you going to use the car every day?

Re: Best RTV for oil pans

Sorry Yankee terminology coming out, stands for Room Temperature Vulcanising. I've seen all sorts of different RTV silicone sealants it's damn confusing!

I've got a spare sump pan etc to get nice and clean before I do the job (oil seals, yay!).

Cheers

Re: Mk1 SC - Distributor

The cap itself doesn't provide the oil seal, they're on the distributor itself. It's removed via two 12mm bolts on either side (the cap has s 8mm bolts). www.kbox.ca does a kit to replace all the seals in the dizzy, one o-ring for the shaft into the cylinder head, one for the dizzy cap seal and the ...

Re: Aw11 , Stock to street sleeper.

You'll need an MK2 Turbo gearbox for the 3SGTE conversion. Have a look at Paul's conversion write up on www.mr2mk1club.com it makes good bed time reading

Or even turbo charging the 4AGE, but this will still cost a fair amount of cash.

There's lots of info on the 4AGTE on www.mr2oc.com

Re: Gearbox oil??

The Haynes says replace every 2 years  . I find the easiest way of replacing the gearbox oil is to run a piece of syphon tube from the top of the engine bay (I usually zip tie it to the engine lid) into the filler hole and tape a small funnel to it. This means you don't need to use axle stand...
