[Mk2] [Turbo] head gasket replacement problem. 3sgte
I seem to be having a problem buying the head gasket I need. I am fitting a replacement head to my rev 3 turbo. The block is standard ( just honed) and the head has not been skimmed. With the je pistons this should give a compression ratio of about 9-1 with a 1.00mm gasket. I wanted to buy a 86mm 1....

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Turbo camshafts
Thanks for all the replies. A real help.
I have just bought a good second hand complete head. I will play about with the old one at my leisure.
I'm off to Spa now for a classic car race meeting. Will finish the mr2 when I get back!

[Mk2] [Turbo] Turbo camshafts
Can someone give me some help to identify the camshafts in a 3s-gte rev 3 turbo. I am not sure that they are standard. Also clearances.
I might need a good second hand set if anyone can help.
Thanks,
Chris

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Laminova oil cooler
I wanted to know the temp of the oil coming out of the engine as this will be the hottest it gets. I will monitor the return temp with an infrared thermometer at first. The idea of this system is that the oil will not ever be far off the water temp and shouldn't go below it ever. If it proves to be ...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Laminova oil cooler
No oil cooler (not even the oe) , oil temp sender in sandwich plate on block. Not sure of water temp as the new sender wasn't in but didn't make the original temp gauge move over normal. Only did about 300miles and have now filled with semi synthetic for a few more miles then it will be filled with ...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Laminova oil cooler
So any idea how my oil temp was getting up to 135c without pushing it? Engine was just rebuilt and was running in with mineral oil. I hope we havn't got another problem but I cant think what it could be.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Laminova oil cooler
Good advice regarding oil temp. I have left off a thermostat at the moment as mocal said they thought it would not be needed. I have an oil temp sender in the oil out ( before the laminova) in the sandwich plate. If it isn't getting up to temp I will fit an inline thermostat or reposition the oil te...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] putting my rev 2 turbo on a diet
The mr2 championship is just that and as you are allowed 1200kg inc driver there is room to add some weight back after stripping. The turbo car was set up for the super gt so the settings are free. Nevertheless it seems silly to not care about the front/rear weight ratio being too uneven. Neither of...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] putting my rev 2 turbo on a diet
My brother and I have two mr2s. One a n/a tin top fully stripped for the mr2 championship and the other a rev 3 turbo for road and track. Both have had full setup by Andy Waters who has prepared the winning mr2s for the last six years. The race car needs to have weight added to the front and perform...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Laminova oil cooler
I have now fitted the remote filter housing and laminova oil cooler. This took much longer than anticipated due to " Larry letdown" ( you know who you are) not supplying the parts when promised. My brother and I sourced all the parts from mocal in the end, who were very helpful. By trial a...

Turbo oil feed pipe gasket
I am just fitting the new turbo. Can anyone tell me the correct way the oil feed / return pipe gasket fits? It has a ridge on it which could fit either with the face on the turbo or the oil pipe.
Thanks

Not sure about that. Andy Waters did it when he rebuilt the engine. I will ask him and post the answer.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Laminova oil cooler
I read that thread with interest. I have a rev3 with a rev 2 block. Oil temp and pressure senders in the sandwich plate. Original oil cooler removed. Just after having the engine rebuilt oil temps were up to 130 driving slowly on low boost. Position of sender may be part of the reason. Have got a to...

Re: Heater Matrix pipes :(
I recently replaced mine with rubber hose. The tank comes out easily if you can get the car on a lift and get underneath standing up. Ideally you need another pair of hands as the tank is 5ft long. The rubber hose fitted in the same place as the removed leaking pipes. It takes about half a day.

Turbo flexible oil pipes
Having ruined the oil pipes when removing my turbo I am thinking of replacing them with flexible pipes.
Does anyone have any experience with these? Can anyone supply or point to a supplier?

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] which oil cooler
on a built engine, the more info the better. To be honest I havn't got all the information on the car that I would like to have. It was built for the MR2 super GT championship but history is limited. I hope to have it running and fettle it over the next six months. It is all a learning curve which ...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] which oil cooler
sn't this also likely to involve the coolant system, collapsed rad or insufficient circulation...maybe causing localised overheating...just a thought as i've had cause to look into this....replaced my rad, had strange overheating engine probs, the rad wasn't flowing at all. I was alarmed when I saw...
