What tyre pressures are you running- too high can cause unwanted sliding

Re: Auto Gearbox

hi i've never filled an mr2 auto but 99% of autos fill from the dipstick tube- it should be wide enough to take the end of a litre bottle with the plastic, or funnel.

Re: Gearbox = Bucket of Rocks

Hi, have you thought it may be the clutch not disengaging properly? It seems if its only on downshifts it maybe worth assessing. If upshifts are good try double clutching on downshifts and see if it helps. Bleeding even may benefit here too, worth a go i reckon.

Quickest 1/4 mile times at totb v

Just MR2's here. By my reckoning Andrew Standring on his first ever drag meeting with a 12.07 was the quickest 2 there. With a poorly clutch later on he couldnt improve on that but it was very close to an 11, so good luck for next time mate! Any other notable times that need adding to the list? I th...

Re: Overheating on full boost!!!

Sounds like head gasket to me. The path the combustion gases into the water will be very tight so normal driving doesnt produce the same cylinder pressure as full boost driving, and on full boost the pressure is enough to get into the water. If this is the case and its got too hot better check the h...

Re: Crankshafts the same in the N/A as for the Turbo???

Yes they are assuminig you mean 3sge v's 3sgte. The compression change is from the piston/head area, both have the same bore and stroke.

Re: bu88ered synchro

Hi If its only 5th gear this can be serviced with the box still in the car, as its just behind the end cover. Special pullers are needed to remove the synchro but it is do-able. If going for a new/recon box it has to be from a turbo, although there are different diff options through the years. Rogue...

Re: Removing conrod bolts and fitting ARP

In answer to your question the rod bolts (or more accurately studs) are a press fit in the rod and really need to be removed (the rods that is) to do this properly. Hitting from underneath may lead to marking the crank if the rods swing against it, and that is not good. Imo ARP are worth it if pushi...

Re: advise with timing belt guide on crank

Yes mate thats correct. The washer goes onto the key initially but then is free to spin after it has been pushed passed the key. Also make sure the washer is the right way round ie curved side facing outwards so it doesnt rub the belt.

Re: advise with timing belt guide on crank

Although an old post this may help others yes you are correct in thinking the washer is squashed when the pulley is tight. Sounds like the pulley is not all the way home to me. Get some one in the car with it held in 4th gear and foot brake pressed hard (handbrake on will be good idea too.) Tighten ...

Re: part number valve stem seals

not being funny either but if youre putting 15k into an engine why try and buy a gasket set without the gasket you dont need? you could just sell it on. Valve seals are valve seals and any company that makes them will ensure they do the job- not like aftermarket intercoolers or strut braces that jus...

Try Rogue, they'll supply non oem valve seal kits for a fraction of the Toyota cost. Good quality too.

Re: REV 1 3SGE and 3SGTE BLOCK DIFERENCES

I agree with that Tim but as i said i wasnt sure if the head cc's (vol) were the same and it could change the compression. Does anyone know for sure if the chamber volumes are the same on here?

Re: REV 1 3SGE and 3SGTE BLOCK DIFERENCES

I think the late rev 3 n/a had them. How old is the n/a block. Head combustion chambers could also be different (less vol higher comp on n/a) but i'm not sure on that one

Re: gearbox help needed for MR2 Turbo J plate

The basic quick difference between turbo and non turbo 'boxes is the turbo 'box has an oil pipe that comes out and goes back in! (for oil cooler fitment).

Re: I think they call it the "Pipe from hell" ?

Hi, the bolt is there to drain the coolant. There is also one on the other pipe. These bungs have a sealing washer (like a sump plug idea) so make sure yours have definately sealed and also make sure the system is bled properly.
Merry Christmas.
