Re: Distributor and/or distributor pickup coils for 4AGZE (Super Charger)
Lastly, if I had a vacuum leak from intercooler (rubber pipe basically split in half and taped up) would that stop it starting.. I think it would at least catch. Have had the IC pop off before at over 100 (test track ;) ) and died straight away.... Did you get to the bottom of your problem? My expe...

Re: White over silver paint codes
Whats your paint code? I'm 28J which makes me 041 over 166. There is also 2Z9 which is 041 over 157. 2Z9 was up to 7/88, 28J was 8/88 through to 12/89. 043 was used for all-white cars in 88/89. Prior to that it was 040. I have a table of all colour codes in Japanese I downloaded years ago. Can't rem...

You can still get the gears new. They are the same as the ones in early 3sgte cars.. Thinking I should get a spare whilst they are still available but the 3SGTE part is listed as 30 teeth and the Mk 1 one as 31 teeth. So that'll be 1mph out at 30, 2 at 60, 3 at 90... Did you notice any difference? ...

I'd be up for a run. Sep 21/22nd weekend is the Glasgow Open building thing but any other weekend is good for me.

Im using Diamond Wheels here in Dundee for the work. They have done a great job on my father in laws diamond cut BMW alloys and have a very good reputation. I think they are the only place in Scotland that do diamond cut refurb and are confident they can do a great job on mine. That's interesting...

Re: One more!
And the speedo conversion. Getting the speedo out of the instrument cluster is pretty straightforward. Just unclip the front clear plastic, unscrew at the back and its out. I had a miles speedo but the odometer had a silly 300 odd thousand miles on it which I wanted to do something about. Being a bi...

Re: One more!
Heres what i did for the rear fog light. Initially I got hold of a UK dash harness thinking I would graft the bits related to the fog lights onto my JDM harness. However as I dug around I found that the JDM car is already wired for optional front fog lights. This uses the same relay as European cars...

Re: One more!
I think the insurance company might just cut me a cheque and let me get on with it so the higher the estimate the better. If I can find a good restoration body shop then I'd definitely prefer that as I want to get a few other things fixed up like the mis-matched front wing. If anyone can r...

Re: One more!
After a few more holdups its all done and fully road legal now. :D There was no sign of the tax disc after a week so I rang DVLA to see what was going on. Of course they don't make it easy to talk to someone who can actually help you but after 4 phone calls I did speak to someone in the local office...

Re: One more!
Got the MOT done on Wednesday at Toyota Helensburgh. No problems at all despite the tyres looking a bit decrepit. They were very complimentary about its condition. Lovely drive over there so really looking forward to being fully legal. I must have passed at least 3 police patrols on the way there wh...

Re: One more!
Thanks Chris and coanda appreciate the help. I dropped into my local Toyota (Helensburgh) on the off-chance that they could get me parts but no such luck. The guy there at least was very apologetic and said if there was anything else I needed he'd do what he could to help. Instead I've managed to ge...

Re: One more!
Back home now so had a closer look. The bumper bar is quite bent almost to the point of touching the body behind it. Hopefully with the impact(s) being well away from the mounting points it hasn't passed any of the force on into the car. Currently having an email argument with the shippers who insis...

Re: Insurance time again!
I'm struggling to get quotes at the moment for the SC I've just imported. Most of the companies that ostensibly offer to insure imports just seem to read from the list of standard UK Mk1 models or ask me is that the 'GT Turbo sir?'. Sky sounded like they knew what they were talking about but ...

Re: dam! and lucky to be alive !
Mine fell off the trolley jack just as I was putting the axle stands underneath it. The jack was under the rear engine mount but must not have been properly centered on it and suddenly there was a huge bang followed by a loud scream. The tip of my middle finger just got caught between the top of the...

Got pics. Its not too bad. Slight scuff on the front bumper but rear bumper is a mess. http://www.flickr.com/photos/alanlaird/8495196186/in/set-72157632675531993 Thats a new skin at least, and maybe the foam insert. Biggest challenge will be getting a match on the transfers. I've got various genuine...

Well, the container has just been delivered, but apparently the car wasn't secured well enough so there is some damage to it.
I'm still on the other side of the world so I don't know yet how bad it is. My wife is supposed to be sending pics.

Re: One more!
Wow, hornets nest! I didn't know the MOT allowed kph or mph, was assuming it was only miles. My understanding is that imports over 10 years old only need to pass an MOT and then you can potter down to the DVLA to register it. Imports under that need an IVA and that specifies a speedo that can show m...
