Re: Air con idle up valve removal or not?

Hi mate, The one that needs to be vented to atmos runs from the petrol tank, along the firewall and up to the c/canister. It's a black metal pipe bolted to the car. The end is up by your water filler cap, just under the n/s inspection panel. What I've done, and at least a few others on here too, is ...

Re: Boost gauge shows less vacuum than normal? Only when cold!

maybe a hairline crack in the intake manifold and when it heats up and expands it seals ok :? ?id check for cracks it has to b a metal part contracting/expanding going by the "sounding blowy" part Yea, my thoughts exactly! I've tried spraying brake cleaner and wd40 over every part that ha...

Re: Boost gauge shows less vacuum than normal? Only when cold!

would a blowing manifold cause a vacume loss? as when mine is cold it sounds a bit like blowing but as it warms up its fine. I don't know tbh, probably not as it's on the oposite side of the head, I'm out of ideas though. I've changed everything I can think of, checked the bgb for ideas, but it sti...

Re: Boost gauge shows less vacuum than normal? Only when cold!

A quick update: It seems to me that there are no boost leaks, as in pipes or hoses, as the car runs fine when up to temperarure, no holding back. But when cold, its like driving with a loose ic pipe, struggles to get up a steap hill, sounds louder, and bit gurgly. I've just been out for a drive and ...

Re: Boost gauge shows less vacuum than normal? Only when cold!

I would have thought if a boost pipe was leaking, it would leak all the time? When the engine is warm, the gauge is normal. I had something similar myself, where the gauge pipe was squashed, but that affected the gauge whatever the engine temperature. I'll check anyway, thanks mate. Any other ideas?

Boost gauge shows less vacuum than normal? Only when cold!

Hi all, To cut a very long story short the 2 has been running very rough lately. I've changed the usual ignition parts and the green temp sensor and it seems better when up to temperautre but still holding back when cold. I noticed yesterday when starting from cold the boost gauge is only showing ab...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] APEXI air filter cleaning?

K&N do an air filter cleaning kit. Halfrauds sell them. http://www.knfilters.com/clningacc.htm You get two bottles, 1 is cleaning fluid and the other is oil. It says you spray the cleaning fluid over the outside of the filter then leave to soak. Then, as the other guys said already, rinse with c...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Cold start problems - stalling and smokey

cheers Keith, I had a few jobs to do yesterday, so while I was in there thought i'd change the plugs as the set in there were quite black, probably due to my previous overfuelling issue. Started her up and she ran fine! Again, this morning, no stalling and less smoke so possibly plug related. I'll k...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Cold start problems - stalling and smokey

Could be the idle control valve sticking dean, I suspect mine is as well as my car sometimes struggles to idle on cold start. Do a search for it or for ICV. The smell could well be the valve stem oil seals as they'll have hardened with age and might be letting a little oil through. Ok, thanks Keith...

Yea, no error codes and the O2 sensor is only about 6months old.

Any other ideas?

[Mk2] [Turbo] Cold start problems - stalling and smokey

Hi all, hoping you can help. When I startthe tubby in the morning, she runs for a couple of seconds then stalls. This happens 3 or 4 times before she manages to keep running and idle normally. This is when the smoking starts. It's smelly smoke, reminds me of that smell after letting off fireworks! S...
