Retarded Ignition Timing
I bought a timing light a few weeks back so I can check my own timing without taking the car to a garage; I found that my timing is actually a couple of degrees retarded. I thought that I probably put the dizzy back a tooth out the last time I pulled it but when I tried to replace it in a more advan...

Re: New Tyres
I bought Falken ZE512 205/45/16 for the front a couple of months ago and found the ride quality to be great on them, reasonably grippy too. Thing is the steering was rubbish and they seemed to be a bit unstable on hard bends, just too soft overall and not really sports tyres. After 300 miles I took ...

Re: HowTo: Battery Relocation to Front Mod
Moving the battery to the front will reduce front end lift under power which in turn reduces understeer under power. But of course it increases understeer off power because there's there's more weight in the front. Try taking the spare wheel out to test the difference that kind of weight will make, ...

I have a TRD Prep Guide I could email you that mostly says what luthor does. Send me your email address to [email protected] if you want it.
It includes engine mods as well as stage 1 & 2 track settings.

Re: Fitting new dampers - should I fit new springs as well?
Have any of you guys with stiffer springs noticed that much difference to your ride quality?
When I put my Koni's on, I found them to be similar to the stock ones for ride whilst being loads better for performance.

Re: Fitting new dampers - should I fit new springs as well?
Karl, I'd be interested to know where you saw the Bilstein -20's as the only springs I've ever seen for the MK1 were -30 or -35 which is too much for my wheels. Regarding your anti roll bars, they only make a difference if you have a car that rolls on corners which with stiffer spring and shocks it ...

Re: Fitting new dampers - should I fit new springs as well?
I agree, although the dampers will make a big difference on their own, since the springs have to come off to fit the shocks it'd be a shame not to put new ones on and the fitting won't cost you any extra. Be careful with lowering the car if you have wider tyres than 185 though.

Re: Nankang Tyres
You can never have enough posts to put you off Nankang so here's another - NS-1's are rubbish in the wet. My car used to snake every so often for no apparent reason with em, but the Toyo's I had next were fine if a bit on the hard side!

By the way Jo, are you still able to drift round islands or have Koni given you a different type of fun?

16's are the best compromise in my opinion, just make sure you don't get tyres that are too stiff!

Re: Advancing Ignition Timing
Cheer guys, I thought 2 degrees would be about right. I keep a can of Optimax in the boot just in case I run out.

Advancing Ignition Timing
Can anyone tell me exactly how much to advance the timing for use with Super Unleaded or Optimax? Nobody seems to know and Shell are too worried about me blowing my engine up to advise.

Custom springs
Does anybody know anywhere apart from Fensport that sell custom spring kits? I know Fensport are good, but their not always the cheapest.

[Mk1 NA] Ignition timing and fuel consumption.
At my last service in January, I asked the guy to advance my ignition timing as I always fill up with Super or Optimax. I was hoping for a little extra performance. He told me that he advanced it by 2 degrees. I don't know whether that's enough to make a difference or not, but I haven't noticed any ...

RR Day
Hi Jo, good day yesterday, will have to go out on the track for myself next year.
Count me in for the rolling road as long as it's on a Sunday as Satuday's are a bit difficult at the mo.
