Re: mk1 v6 vs mk2 v6

I would go mk1 will have a more useful power to weight ratio with that engine, although make sure you find as rust free as shell as possible before parting with a lot of money converting the engine.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Clutch life on uprated clutches...450ft/lb RPS less than a year...?

I agree with one of the above posts I would expect a performance clutch to last less time than a normal one as the extra power will be working it harder (like performance brake pads, do a better job but don’t last as long as oem ones) and as said the wear might be down to the individual’s driving st...

Re: 1999 rev5 turbos

Were there a lot of rev5 turbo’s surely by 1999 the mr2 turbo was beginning to become old hat in Japan after 10 years. I would be surprised if there were that many sold. I think the mr2 turbo was really the car of the early to mid 90s by 99 I think other jap models had taken over popularity.

Re: Options following writeoff

i have seen a handful of nice fairly low mile rev3 turbos advertised for between £1900 and £2500 recently. At this time of year you might even get away with a lower offer too.
wouldnt repair your car. would consider using your engine in a mk1 also though.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Aftermarket intercooler on stock set up?

Boost will still be the same as it was before on the boost gauge, if its a small leak as the turbo will be working harder to keep it at the same level. One of the pipes or the core its self will be leaking (the stock pipes are also steel and will not affect the sound). It’s very common for the joint...

Re: Power Steering Intermittently going stiff?

try and swap relays with another car just to rule it out, as they are exspencive to buy. i used to have a spare one. have seen lots of power steering problems on mr2's and its always been the relay but does sound like yours might be something else. think the relays are about 70 new but go for about ...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] £3000 to spend on safe power.

If you have £3k spare don’t do a rev3 conversion on your current car, sell up and buy a rev3 plus car (could get one for about £2.5k now) and use the money from yours to tune that as you will end up with just as much power on a newer more reliable car.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Best Downpipe de-cat

the best bet is the cheapest as all of them will crack with time as the engine moves slightly compared to the rest of the exhuast. most last about 2 or 3 years depending on use. only the cast blitz ones avoid this problem but are very heavy by comparison

Stock ic is ok but you will see a performance gain if you fit a aftermarket one even at stock boost (which will raise slightly with a aftermarket ic fitted).

Re: Power Steering Intermittently going stiff?

It will defiantly be the relay its in the front trunk just under the plastic spare wheel cover on the right hand side as you look at it. It’s a metal circular thing with a plastic top from memory. Its very common fault happened on all 3 of my mr2s at some point. The ignition trick normally cures it ...

Re: MK2 which revision?

if its not modified look at the front lip on the bottom of the bumper rev1 is the small one, rev2 is the deeper one.
if has stock wheels still (unlikely) then rev1 has 14" wheels and rev2 onwards 15" ones but these are oftern swapped over.

another vote for carlimits day sounds exactly what your looking for, lots of run off no crashes todate and most poeple find the limits of their driving as the name suggests.

Re: Current Financial Climate - whats the implications on MR2 owning?

Price seems average for current market, might as well get as late as car and lowest miles you can for your budget but as said mr2’s if well serviced will be good for loads of miles, two of mine had over 130k and were both fine. I would however expect to pay a few hundred less for a higher milage car...
