Re: The new mk4 mr2?

I think a Noble looks more like a supercar mmm, got to love that ford parts bin look, yummy :D (kidding) TBH, until you've scraped your knuckles, broken sockets, twisted off extension bars, bought plus-gas and wd40 like it's going out of fashion, sworn and sworn until there is nothing left to swear...

Re: Owning a track car

I'd have to agree that 539s look like a lot of fun, but atm on wet grimy roads, I'd take the 720 every time :D

Will have to get another set of wheels with 539s on for trackdaying.

Re: Owning a track car

so ofcourse the handling is not as good through the corners as a stiffened up version. Thats a bit of an understatement - although, with RE720s it can more than hold its own against a A539 shod car (esp. in the wet) - Anna gave MattJ a good run for his money at Donny, until our brakes started givin...

Re: Owning a track car

It probably would benefit from having a new set of Koni adjustables fitted, but IMO the current old (and probably a little tired) shocks and springs are fine.

Ours is pretty tired, there were some amusing pics of it pretty much on the doorhandles through Radar :)

Re: Owning a track car

Interesting point about the MOT, but how do they go about checking road worthiness of pure track day race cars, such as ex- Formula Renault, Formula Ford cars? Kelvin Just for completeness - you'll find that some trackday companies are less keen on letting serious racing machinery (such as the abov...

Re: Owning a track car

Theoretically - yes, you should produce the MOT at events, but we've never been asked to... (having said that, there are other mk1s which look in more of a state than ours - looking at Lauren :D) Trailering it is the only option if you don't want to insure/RFL it. Depending on your type of license, ...

Re: Owning a track car

Most trackday companies require an MOT to prove that it's safe to drive. You only need insurance & road fund license if you are going to drive it to the track (i.e. not trailer it). As an aside, it's well worth putting the car through the MOT anyway, since it doesn't cost too much, and they (sho...

Ah, mr2 stuff - that would be it then. I don't have any firewall problems with LFS - I can connect to other LFS races no probs, I should have checked the master list  I'll get some practice in for next week. Speedy is indeed Alex, but I didn't get in last night, must be somebody else playing w...

Re: Newbie looking for a Mk1 + advice...

One of the other weak points not mentioned is the sills - they go, and it's quite hard to check on a rev2 (with the skirts) without taking the skirts off, or getting the car up on ramps. It is fair to say that if you want to buy a mk1, then be prepared to budget for at least some minor welding and b...

Re: How well does an MR2 perform on track?

I actually much prefer a wet track over a dry one
- have to agree that Donny in the wet was much more fun than Anglesey in the dry. Mk1s do seem to be better in the wet, esp. with some decent rubber on.

Always nice to be overtaking caterhams :)

Dunno if another Toyota caused it :)

Oh - and it's got replacement calipers/sills, but I don't know if that really counts as modifed or not?

Our silver rust bucket

Absolutley as Toyota intended '87 mk1, apart from new rear calipers/fluid/sills and tyres. Superb little track-day car, has done Anglesey , Cadwell and now Donny . Front brakes get a little tired after a few good laps, but nevermind. Bridgestone tyres allow you to carry lots of speed through corners...

Re: Does anyone own a TOTALLY standard MR2 anymore?

Totally standard, apart from the tyres and the dent in the side of it.

Excellent track-day toy for small money.
