Re: G reg black or dark green mk2 near Lawn in Swindon

Sounds like me dude! I just started working in Swindon about 3 weeks ago, at the Nationwide building on Pipers Way. I live in Lambourn about 15 miles away. Seen a few MR2's in the car park at work. Where abouts in Swindon do you live? (Not that I know the area at all, only how to get to and from wor...

Re: [Mk2 ] Crossing fords (not the cars)

Think I've found my answer actually http://www.smartdriving.co.uk/Driving/Driving_emergencies/Floods.htm In normal vehicles you should not attempt to drive through water that is more than about 30 centimetres deep (or up to the centre of your wheels). I guess if the water is higher than the wheel ce...

Re: [Mk2 ] Crossing fords (not the cars)

the best thing to do (from experience) is not to go thrashing through it but go in at a steady pace slipping the clutch and keeping the revs high so no water travels up the exhaust pipe Also don't forget to dry your brakes off afterwards, either drive with your left foot lightly on the brake for a ...

[Mk2 ] Crossing fords (not the cars)

Hi all, What depth of water could I reasonably expect to be able to drive through without killing the car? I could have a much shorter journey to work if I was able to cross a fairly deep ford, apparently it's about wheel height at the moment but would probably get deeper after heavy rain. Not sure ...

Re: Horrible horrible exhaust rattling

Thanks to everyone who posted trying to help me with this, it's fixed now, the problem turned out to be that the manifold stays that secure the manifold to the block, weren't bolted down at all! There was one bolt fitted out of 3 locations, and it wasn't even tight, (I can't imagine how that happene...

Re: Would a skid pan help?

the only reason people get away with it on the road is because they are going more slowly and are not driving the car on the limits Isn't that the point though? I mean, we're discussing your opinion that push-pull steering causes a lot of road accidents aren't we? In which case, what you've just sa...

Re: Would a skid pan help?

Exactly right, as long as drivers are in control of the car and don't put other people in danger then fair enough - not everyone can be an expert track or road driver. I do think the L test is totally inadequate though, for anybody, and everyone, particularly on this forum, should consider getting s...

Re: Would a skid pan help?

Lauren, The push-pull steering method is accepted as being the safest because both hands are always on the wheel at all times, and because the hands never pass 12 o'clock, you are always in a position to apply more lock in either direction, wherever the wheels are pointing. The key point here is tha...

Re: Would a skid pan help?

Hi, sorry to join this thread late - I've only just read it! I just wanted to point out, in response to waelwulfas, that the police driving style is available, to some extents, to anybody, by taking an advanced driving course with IAM or RoSPA. Both these organisations run courses based on Roadcraft...

Re: [Mk2 Generic] Wheel offset - Yokohama AVS

Yes they were already on an MR2, and I have done a test fit and there's not a clearance issue from what I can see. I'm concerned that the different offset will affect the handling negatively though, and wondered if anybody who knows about geometry could lend some advice! On another note, these wheel...

[Mk2 Generic] Wheel offset - Yokohama AVS

Hi all, I bought a set of Yokohama AVS rims a while back, and I'm just about to get some tyres put on them. I only just noticed though that the offset on them is 30mm, compared to the standard 45mm, so I'm worried that they'll screw up my handling. Does anybody know if it will, or will they be fine?...

Re: [Mk2 NA] How much exhaust heat-wrap?

That did cross my mind actually - all I can say is 'I hope not!'. I have seen that other people have done it on this or some other forum, and I haven't heard any strong warnings against it. I think it was here recently I heard somebody being recommended to wrap the downpipe on a turbo, surely this g...

Reading, L plates, wrong way on roundabout!

Well not quite on the roundabout, saw a black Mk2 attempting to join the long Woodley roundabout using the exit lane, facing the wrong way round the roundabout! Stopped pretty quick though, must have been embarassing reversing out of that one! Hope nothing nasty happened - a bit of a vulnerable plac...

[Mk2 NA] How much exhaust heat-wrap?

Hi all, Planning to get rid of the exhaust manifold heat shields and wrap the whole thing in heat wrap. Can anybody who's done this tell me how much and what size of wrap they used? Or anybody who knows can tell me what diameter the pipe is and approximately what the combined pipe lengths are? Cheer...

Trackdays/tyres

Hi all, I'm about to book up for the trackday in September, but I was wondering what people do about tyres for trackdays? I've heard that you can eat through a whole set of tyres in a day on track, is this true? I don't really want to buy new tyres just for the day, and I obviously don't have room t...

I'd be interested in a complete system for the N/A, again depending on final price though

I drive through Arborfield every day, I'll keep an eye out for your car!

Was anybody at the jap car meet in Reading last night? I went along and met some of the OC lot. Thought I saw projectprelude leaving just as I arrived, quite late?

Re: Red Rev 3 Turbo - Lower Earley Way, Reading

Hiya, I've just moved into a house in Woodley, only been there about a month. If that aeroplane in your photo is where I think it is, it's only a few minutes away from where I live! Fairly sure I haven't seen you around, I have seen quite a few 2's though since being in the area and got lots of wave...

Re: Horrible horrible exhaust rattling

Morning all, I had another look at this yesterday, took off the heatshields and the noise is just as bad without them on. I'm wondering if it's not exhaust related at all. Looking at the engine from the top, the noise appears to be coming from somewhere in between the middle of the block and the tim...
