Re: Oil subjecture..Oils & filters
Also, Australia has a very different climate meaning different oils may be more appropriate. Stick with manufacturers recommendations IMO. Can't go wrong with Castrol 10W40 Magnatec for every day use. Penrite (an Australian company) recommends their semi-synth 10w50 as first choice for the Blacktop...

Re: Rally Car
I'm guessing there's a few people like myself thinking of going six speed with the C160 box for ease of install, sounds like a great way of pepping up an old 4AGE but am I right in saying there dead rare. I think I have to change my clutch soon and I'd love to do the gearbox at the same time but ca...

My '86 mk1 has factory air (climate control no less!) and two rad fans. They appear to be individually switched : usually ony one of them ever comes on. Given the 13 or so litres of coolant, it takes a long time to heat soak at idle (imagine boiling 13 litres of water...even without glycol in it) bu...

Re: What size wheels are people running on the AW11?
My AW11 runs 15 x 7 CSA alloys, 195x55 tyres
- I need some sidewall compliance for the roads I venture down.
I'm looking for a set of lightweight 14" rims, so I can have a 15"
'street/track' setup on low profile, and a 14"
'touring/crap road' setup on 60 profile.

Here are the amended specs Master Cylinders : http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss191/AdrianS/mastercyl_ok.png Calipers and disks : http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss191/AdrianS/brakespecs_ok.png And here is the static bias and pedal feel. Pedal travel is ratio of master cylinder to pad travel, ...

Re: Brake options
I've got: AW11 f = 51.0 x 1 AW11 r = 36.3 x 1 SW20 late f = 36.4 x 2 SW20 late r = 42.75 x 1 ZZW30 f = 51.0 x 1 ZZW30 r = 44.25 x 1 ...all from direct measurements - hope that helps! :D Thanks heaps! That's all within a whisker of my figures now. What I need now is data for the various non-mk1 cali...

Re: Brake options
Ok. you may well be right about the early sw20 master cyl. The master cyl. bore has no effect on brake bias, only pedal pressure / travel. I did some calcs on pedal travel vs pad travel for different combinations, but never tidied it up. The intent was to plot pedal travel, effort and bias for vario...

Re: Brake options
Here's my current spec sheet
:

I have to add the BZR superstrut front brakes to the list; the calipers are supposed to bolt up, and there are a couple of disk options.
I actually have a set, but they
(and the disks) are soooo heavy.

Re: Brake options
The bias valve figures I'm reasonably confident in (taken from Toyota service manuals), and yes, the sw20 m/cyl has different bias behavior : http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss191/AdrianS/mastercyl.png With ABS, I believe the bias is built into the ABS controller Bias Valve behavior - it reduces ...

Re: Bias Valve
Hi Adrian, that is some top notch info! :thumleft: The only part I can comment directly on is: pistons : 51.1mm front, 41.3mm rear. ...for the AW11 (not sure if A or B) I have numbers of 51.0mm and 36.50mm based on popping the pistons out and getting on them with a digital vernier. I wonder if ther...

Bias Valve
Just a note on gutting bias valves - the aw11 bias valve does not provide a fixed front/rear bias. The effective bias varies with line pressure, and thus braking effort. The net effect is more front bias under heavy braking. This means less font bias in light braking situations, eg wet roads. Not an...

Re: Steeringwheel questions....
... I originally had a 320mm Momo wheel from previous owner but just found it annoying that I couldn't see the tops of the dials or the indicator lights... You are right about the gauges; here's my solution for the indicator lights: leds in the steering wheel surround http://mrtwo.mine.nu/uploaded/...

ditto
I also have a 320mm OD d-shaped wheel
(sparco) which came with the car.
I like it
- gives a very direct feel, and although the steering is heavy at parking speeds on 195 tyres, it's no big deal; you shouldn't really be forcing the steering at standstill anyway.

I like it

Insurance and Rego
Having done similar research, I am partway through a 20v blacktop/6-speed swap. The main reason is simple - my insurer, and rego authority (in Aus) see the 20v as just another 1600, so no engineers cert. is required. A 2zz would be legal, being only 1.8 vs 1.6, but requires an engineering certificat...
