Mine only does it when the car is in gear.
You making me think now, if it was valve clearances then why doesn't it make any sound in neutral???

Re: What happens at 2000 rpm?
Lets hope it's not your piston rods! If the bearings in those have gone you would probably get a low-pitched knocking whereas the noise I'm after is a higher pitched rattle. The piston rods would probably make a noise from the bottom of the engine too, but I'm not 100% sure that's what she's on abou...

Re: What happens at 2000 rpm?
Well I finally got to spend a bit of time on the car today. I jacked up the rear end and put it in gear. The front wheels were well chocked but with one rear wheel off and the nose about a foot from a brick wall, I slooooowly released the clutch. All well at idle, so I gingerly climbed out and went ...

Re: What happens at 2000 rpm?
Nice one, will do mate. I've been pretty strapped for time too recently, two hours were all I could spend on the car last week and that was my week off too... I should be able to get a timing light on it by the end of the week. I'm tempted to sit on the back of the car while someone drives it along,...

Re: What happens at 2000 rpm?
Pfft. No joy with the loose plastic and heatshield after some nipping up. Clutch release bearing is another thing I can't test, but it is noisy when stationary and foot off. I had the same problem with my last Saab, but was able to squirt grease into the bearing while my friend pushed the clutch ped...

Re: What happens at 2000 rpm?
Hmm interesting ideas so far! though i recently got a new exhaust fitted icant find anything loose so far. They did bu88er it up a bit though so I'm keeping it in mind. It occurs under all throttle settings including overrun and wot. Brother in law said floor it in too high gear whuch i did, it did ...

It happens all the time i hold a steady speed in that rev range. I will have to see if it happens under wot and overrun in the morning.

What happens at 2000 rpm?
I noticed since the sun came out and my windows have been opened, that I have a rattley tinkling sound coming from the engine at 2000-2500 rpm. It only happens while going alongs so I've not yet had any luck finding loose things which may vibrate. I think it also stops if I depress the clutch. I hav...

Re: Just for a change - How to GET RID of a dump valve?
Yes, there looks to be an aluminium bung in the hole. I was a little confused because the stock systems I've seen appear to have a circular flange where the recirc valve is fitted, whereas mine has a bit of rhombus action going on
Thankyou )

Just for a change - How to GET RID of a dump valve?
I'm not sure exactly what I need to obtain in order to cure my cars hilarious sneezing every time I change gear. If you fellas could have a look at the photo, do I need just the recirc valve and pipe back to the air box. or do I need a different hard pipe as well? Also any clues as to the value of a...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Clutch pedal stays down
Thank you, the new slave (and hours of laying under a car in the rain, messing with things I don't really understand!!) seem to have solved it. I hope the problem doesn't recur as I am currently feeling quite proud of myself

Thanks, thats very generous
I've already ordered a slave as it was only £30. If that doesn't solve the problem, I'll pm you about the master if you don't mind.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Clutch pedal stays down
Thanks, I was hoping not to hear that though :( I couldn't see any evidence of leak, reservoir is full but I assume the fluid may be able to blow past seals and remain in the system? The fluid is really black, is it full of perished rubber? So how quick do I need to act? How bad does it get, will I ...

[Mk2] [Turbo] Clutch pedal stays down
Hi Couple of weeks ago I went to pull away and my clutch pedal only returned half way. It was enough to drive away but felt a bit weird. When I nudged the pedal from beneath it sprang back up fully and seemed fine. It's done the same thing quite a few times now (never when I want it to though!!!). Y...

Re: Another exhaust question
All ok thanks chaps. The decat pipe and exhaust were not an issue, emissions are well within limits and noise doesn't seem to have bothered the tester. It is louder than the old super megaphone but not as noisy as I expected from the Japspeed thread. I am a bit annoyed that although I asked the gara...

Another exhaust question
I've elected to buy another exhaust rather than having my super megaphone welded up. I'm not sure how much of my system is standard pipework and how much has been replaced by the megaphone. There are some good pics of a Super Megaphone on this thread: http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=764...

Re: Where do you all buy your parts?
Ok I got the expected result, although the parts lady was very friendly and helpful.
Front pipe - £200
Tail Pipe - £350
I also called CAS and they can get it but said it's £450 trade so will cost more than that. This isn't going well

Re: Where do you all buy your parts?
Ok, I suppose it's the same with most if not all main dealers. I'll whack a wanted ad up as I got a good result when I needed a bonnet before xmas. I used to have a few saab parts suppliers who could supply oem parts at a fraction of dealer prices but haven't seen any specialists like that in an eve...
