Re: Window motor gearbox.
No I didn't need one of those tools. Just a good quality cross head / Phillips drive, some plusgas to loosen up 26 years worth of metal on metal corrosion etc and a dremel type tool to open up some small holes in the inner door skin. I found you just couldn't get the torque on to the 3 screws of the...

Re: Window motor gearbox.
I hope you have better luck than I did when doing it. I had some difficulty in getting a screw driver on to the 3 screws holding the motor to the door frame. I ended up in cutting some small access holes in the door skin so a decent tool could line up with them and eventually replaced the 3 original...

Re: Car cover
As above, I too have the medium size cover from Halfords. I got it the day after our "great storm" as my car which lives outside filled with water and soaked the leather seats and carpets. It is an old T-bar afterall. So I've had the cover about 4 weeks now and take it off at the wk/...

Re: 22mm Nut on front suspension strut bar
Sorted!
Didn't get any specialist Plusgas etc. I used a small wire brush then WD40 & 3 in one oil overnight then used a 22mm deep socket & 2 foot breaker bar and it did the trick, picking up new rubber cushions tomorrow!

22mm Nut on front suspension strut bar
Hi I've had an MOT advisory and need to change the rubber cushions - both sides on the front of my MR2 MK1 that are at the end of the tie-bars. Each bar is attached with a very tight 22mm nut. I've tried the usual wire brush clean up then soak in wd40 then 22mm spanner but no luck so far in shifting...

Re: Engine bay fan spinning on startup.
Hi Jimi, Thanks for the info, I wasn't sure about the fan speeds - 2 stages. I never considered the pump. The water pump could be the cause? It's done 148000 miles so probably a bit tired, I'll keep an eye on it don't fancy replacing it till it needs it though... I got the car in 2001 with 116000 on...

Re: Engine bay fan spinning on startup.
I wonder if any of you experience this then. Generally the fans are off during general driving. When I get home and put the car in the garage the time it takes me to open the garage door usually makes the front fans turn on to what I can only describe as half (low) speed. By the time I've sat back i...

Re: Engine bay fan spinning on startup.
Its white for the engine bay fan, never in 8 years have i had the radiator fans come on in my car, dont even know if they work. They weigh alot though. Quick question, once warmed up, my radiator fans at the front of the car come on all of the time so I am wondering if one of my sensors is not work...

Re: spluttering at low revs
This reminds me of this; This happened to me. (I've got a MK1b which may differ) Check the rubber pipe that runs from the inlet manifold near the rear of the engine, the pipe runs to the sensor that is mounted to the rear right hand end of the bulkhead, its only a few inches long and bends around, i...

Re: Driveshaft/Gearbox Seals
Hi, I did mine last week, RHS only mind. First thing make sure youve drained all of the gearbox oil first. I used a hammer and cold chisel to drift out the side shaft- one good hit square on and the side shaft moved out by about an inch, I then pulled it out by hand. My side shaft circlip was intac...

Re: Gearbox oil leak
One final ask;
OK so thats very encouraging, do you think this can be done without disturbing the shafts at the wheel hub ends?
i.e. just work on the inboard bit?

Re: Gearbox oil leak
Thx Limeymk1, I guess I need to take a closer look. I studied the BGB & the Haynes manual & it looks like there are a few nuts & bolts to undo inboard just outside the G/box - to separate the drive shafts from the G/box. Anyone ever done this? Book suggests once the driveshafts are clea...

Gearbox leak
I've got both the Toyota BGB manuals engine /body etc but I really don't want to drop the gearbox, that's way too much work for me with just axle stands etc. Fairly sure it would be the drive shaft seals I don't think its coming thr the bell housing main shaft seal /bearing as my clutch works / sou...

Gearbox oil leak
Hi, Ive done a search but its not come up with great results so Ill ask the question here. Ive lost a lot of oil from my gearbox and its quite wet underneath, I suspect this has been going on for years but my question is apart from the gearbox oil drain / filler plug could the gearbox leak from...

Re: MR2 dB noise level
Guys, Thx for all your replies, just to let you know, my MR2 has a standard replacement exhaust system - front & back box and it was fitted back in 2003 when the car had 128k on the clock. It's now got 147k and I've had this MR2 about 12 years :D The exhaust is probably coming to the end of its ...

MR2 dB noise level
Hi, what is a typical value of noise (dB) for a standard stock non modified MK1 MR2 (1987)?
I am doing Brands in March, so just wondering what to expect?
Cheers,
Mario.
