Re: What is a 5S block?

you could go with a forged piston using 4032 alloy, they have tighter clearances than the 2618 alloy as they expand less. The 2618 is stronger if you are going for bigger power/abuse, but for a road car i believe the 4032 is a better piston as it will last longer,( due to less wear from the tighter ...

depends really if it is a uk 2000 model or jap import 2000 model N/a
as the jap model is fairly rare as it has the redtop Beams engine

Re: The journey of one man and his Mule(s)

looks very interesting and a lot of fun. 8v lampredi twincam engine you will be hearing a lot about guy croft now i suspect. 200hp is a bit optimistic, the 16 valve turbo this evolved into was 200hp. the 8v turbo was 165-185hp, although with the weight im sure it will be bloody quick either way \:D/

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] gearbox options ?

Yep so should be strong, especially as the 2grfe has 300hp+ in supercharged format.

The ea60 is from the 2.0 diesel so this could be affordable, but there is definitely an adaptor plate needed as Toyota never put it to the 2gr only lotus did that and with a plate

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] gearbox options ?

The turbo box is certainly very strong, there are other 6speed boxes that can be made to fit just need a closer look. the lotus Evora uses a 6speed box with an adaptor plate to mate to the 2Grfe engine. there is also a 6speed auto using paddle shifts which is a direct fit to the 2Grfe in the evora i...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] head gasket replacement problem. 3sgte

You could have some work done on the combustion chamber, plenty do this anyway to improve it, this could gain a few cc's to drop your CR, or have work done on piston tops. Both are quite common. Combustion chamber work is looking best option with regards to your setup, at least get you closer. Other...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] head gasket replacement problem. 3sgte

Some 'experts' are very keen on dynamic compression ratio which takes the intake valve closing into consideration, unfortunately other factors can be missed out using this approach and basing everything on dynamic compression ratio as things get quite complicated. I suspect JE produced a piston for ...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] head gasket replacement problem. 3sgte

Couple of reasons. It has been suggested that it's for competition engines running high octane race gas so able to run the higher CR. secondly a fully built engine with late inlet valve closing , tied in with longer duration cams can have the intake valve still open as the piston rises, this results...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] head gasket replacement problem. 3sgte

If the 9:1 as calculated by piston manufacturer is with a 1mm gasket, then yes you would need to more than double that to bring it anywhere near 8:1 which means your squish is over 2mm = awful . I don't think the je is calculated with 1mm tho is it? CHECKED and you are correct it is.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] head gasket replacement problem. 3sgte

If you are unsure of the history of head and block you should cc and that will take away some of this guess work. It's all very well saying drop your CR to 8:1 and on a fairly stock setup intending on running more boost I am in agreement. However this 8:1 is not all it seems and one of the questions...

Re: Gavs 500hp++ mr2 nicknamed 'The beast'

erm, the short version is.. mapped it to 550bhp on 1.5bar using road fuel, had bought a clutch which i had specifically told a 'specialist' should be good for 800+bhp they neglected to tell me the brand of clutch until i had recieved it (they had said a certain norweigen castrol celica running a 71m...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Adjustable cam pulleys

The A/F ratio is just where it should be all the time apart from at high revs when the injectors start running out of fuel. What do you mean start running out of fuel? According to the build thread Stephen postulated that the 540cc injectors are maxxed out when he is running 10psi of boost on the t...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Adjustable cam pulleys

I don't disagree that the stock ecu can run the car with moderate changes to these important parts, what I disagreed with was the concept that the ecu is BETTER and able to run any cam and turbo combo fitted.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Adjustable cam pulleys

We know we have more airflow as we have made more power at the same air fuel ratio. How did the ecu know to add more fuel when the difference in sensor readings is negligible? It did not know -We did and created a new ve table based on this. We mapped the car. How did we increase efficiency with the...
