Re: Coolant change

Well I'm pretty confidant in them... they sorted out my dodgy handbrake with minimal fuss and there's a guy there who seems to know his way around mk1's pretty well. I don't really fancy a DIY job!
Thanks for the quick replys as well :thumleft:

Coolant change

From what I gather, changing the coolant is a bit of a PITA, so I went to my local garage for a quote. They've estimated £35-40... does this seem reasonable? Obviously, it doesn't include 4life coolant, just standard stuff, but from what I can tell that's what its been running on for a while (it cer...

Try this place:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Toyota-MR2-MK1-Sp ... 286.c0.m14
They seem to have a few mr2s, give them a call and they might be able to help.

Re: Mk1b Discs

Blimey, lots of responses! Thanks again for your help everyone. :thumleft: I think I'll go down the standard discs/uprated pads route... I can't justify spending so much more on grooved discs for the dubious advantages (sorry jinxy - I hear what you're saying but the driving I do every day I don't e...

Mk1b Discs

Sometime in the not-too-distant future my 2 is going to need some new front discs. Is there any advantage in getting aftermarket discs over the standard Toyota ones? I'm only a poor student, so my budget is pretty tight - I'd rather not shell out for more expensive discs unless there's a noteworthy ...

Re: SE Kent area

Aah well! I did notice a coupe of mk2s there last year, the black one I saw looked pretty similar to one that I think was owned by a Japanese guy at uni. Don't know if he's still around though. Maybe there'll be some fresh new mr2 faces this year! I've only got one year to go... Nice one for...

Re: SE Kent area

Yeh? Well I go to uni in Canterbury... I'll keep an eye out for you! \:D/ I know what you mean though, there aren't many of us around. Having said that, I've seen 4 mk2s in the last couple of days (including a standard red one outside Herne Bay, and a tasty heavily modified black one going along Sto...

Re: MK1 CO2 emissions anyone

There's no cat on the mk1, therefore it kicks out co (carbon monoxide) not co2 (carbon dioxide).
As far as i know anyway... :-k

White mk1, Canterbury

Driving in/out of Canterbury towards Tyler Hill. I'm in the white mk1 t-bar, the one with the stupid exhaust (which I will replace at some point...)! Just curious to see if you're on here, I don't see many around this area.

Well if you don't want to wait, Halfords will make plates while you wait. You just need proof of id and proof of car ownership.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Cat B Write Off... but back on road?

[quote="nikaiyo"] Saying that the insurance co's do some strange things when it comes to write offs, you often find that fire/ flood damaged cars get dumped into A or B irrespective of the actual damage- so it might not be accident damage at all. Its worth checking that it is really a CAT ...

Re: [Mk2] [Generic] Insurance for 17 year old

My first car was a 950cc Citroen AX... which I spun twice. Within 3 months. If I'd had an mr2 (even the mk1 I have now) I'm fairly sure I would have killed myself or someone else. Obviously, I'm in no situation to judge your son's driving capabilities, but the idea of 17 year old at the wheel of a p...

Re: Mk1b OE Alarm Intialisation

£250?? Crikey
That's about a third of the entire value of my car! Maybe not then.
Perhaps I'll just get a cheap job, in the fullness of time.
Thanks for your help anyway :thumleft:

Re: Mk1b OE Alarm Intialisation

My mk1b has central locking, but no alarm whatsoever. Is this normal? Or has it been removed by a previous owner who seems to have been obsessed with "weight-saving"? (why he did it to a heavier t-bar model is beyond me :? ) As such, how easy would it be to install an alarm from scratch? I...
