!

Well, I started with 26psi and after a few laps in the dry came in and they'd gone up to 33 ! Dropped
back to 28 and they seemed to work well. For road tyres :D

Tyre Pressures

Hi all,

Doing a track day at Oulton tomorrow and was wondering what tyre pressure people would suggest to start off with.

Car is a Mk1 AW11B running Yokohama A539 195/50x15 otherwise a stock motor. Forcast is for patchy rain.

Thanks
Nige

Re: A grand day out

Fun ain't it! My next spare £400 is going on Konis and Springs, that's for sure! Oh yeah :D Not my first track day ever though, did one in May double driving a friends Scirroco Scala. Mister Two was much, much better. As for the suspension, have you checked out the USA suppliers on Ebay and the lik...

A grand day out

Did my first track day in the Mk1b yesterday at Aintree. Darn good fun it was too. Very pleased with the A539's especially last session when it rained. still offered great grip. Only gripe was more power needed ! Very long straight on that circuit and a few more BHP would have been nice. Anyone turb...

Re: replacement front shocks

I gather then that US spec shocks are the same as UK ones then ?

I spotted some on Ebay from there, huge savings over UK prices even with duty.

2nd gear synchro rings..........easy ???

Just about to take the box out to do the clutch and am considering replacing
the synchro rings on second as it crunches on quick changes. All other gears
are purrfect.
Is it an easy enough job or needing so many special tools as to live with
changing gear with a bit of mechanical sympathy ?

Wheels and offset compensation

Following mucho head scratching with respect to tyres I've come to the conclusion there isn't a tyre that will be the dogs for both road and track days, there will always be a compromise. So, the obvious answer is a set for each. I've a set of 6x15"alloys in the garage from my old Astra Sport w...

Re: Repair or sell?

An engine complete with box in Ellesmere Port went on fleabay recently for £100. So they are
out there cheap enough. Should be able to get it fitted for less than £300, it's only a days work.

Shame to sell it as it is as you'll get rag all for it :(

What's gone pop anyway ? Is it fixable ?

Tyre sizes and options

Hi, my '89 MK1 needs a couple of front tyres. It came to me fitted with 195/45 15 on TSW alloys IIRC it would have had originaly had 185/60 14. As this equates to 195/50 15 do I replace all four in 50 profile or stick with the marginally smaller 45's ? There are pro's and cons for both profiles and ...

I don't like my knob, it feels funny

Now I have your attention  Apart from the fact it's loose, I just don't like the shape of the gearknob, the protruding front shape annoys me. I drove a Mk1 a short while ago that had a slightly tapered but predominately cylindrical one that was much nicer. There's a similar shaped carbon one re...
