Thanks Alan!
Yeah that's the area i'm talking about. On mine it's not so wide an area but it does go back along the sill further (About 6 inches) in a thin line, and it also goes a bit further up the vertical inner, the other side isn't anywhere near as bad. So it should be doable then.
Great topic. Even if it is over 2 years old! Prob not going to happen anyway (the hybrid/supra seems to be Toyota's only upcomming sports offering for now), but styling wise they should concoct a challenger for the VX220 (Handling, Styling, Performance) and the Honda S2000 (image, concept,...
yeah, your spare car as in not the daily driver. not a "spare mr2" as in you have 2 mr2's. that's how I read it anyway. Removing the whole of the rear quarter is a cutting out job, it doesn't bolt on (the times I've wished Toyota had just bolted it on instead of welding an entire panel ont...
Must be the day for Dark Blue MR2s needing welding advice! (see my post) spudgun > my rear arch that needs doing is similar to that (with it all ground off though)... and I have that more important underneath structural stuff and the majority of the advice in that post (inc from you!) was to try and...
I really wish people would look beyond hearsay Hearsay? I'm only going on what I read here: http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=53304&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=mr2s&start=20 I replaced my first one after writing it off. Then my re-shelled second one went rotten, so...
010on1986 > Thanks for the link spudgun > No I was only joking about it being a suitable repair, It's suprising stiff of course (it's not "just filler"; esp the way I formed new half inch thick panels and rivetting was quite strong) However I knew I'd have to bite the bullet and do it prop...
re: Pictures - as I say, if I took a picture of the (previously) worse part it would look very tidy because I did it all up with chemical metal, mesh and rivets. What I mean is I constructed psuedo steel panels to shape from the mesh then coated them in chemical metal and let them harden. Then I wou...
spudgun > Thanks for the link and the info. Yes the first picture in that thread is what i'm talking about, however in my case it goes all the way to the outer edge of the metal (to the sill) which in itself is just a quick weld but mine is also underneath... basically where you talk of not joining ...
BTW Lauren, I think i read somewhere that you said your last mk1's shell (sc conversion?) was rotten so you scrapped it and got another body... this seems to go against what you said in your post so were you lucky to find a great body or did that one also turn out to have the creeping menace? And an...
Hi Lauren, thanks for the opinion. I'm not really after having a large return on the SC parts, the car was basically 'free' due to my original write off/insurance + compensation so while it would be a shame to see it go I wouldn't be out of pocket so much with that. The £800 I spent on suspension/bu...
Similar to a post I made some time ago but this is more specific, i'm particularly interested in a welder's advice on how hard/expensive it is to repair the flat parts of the floor under the car. I'm having a tough time deciding what to do with my off the road MR2 SC (conv) right now. It's been gara...
Well done on this budget job. I'm probably going to end up using those arches also (well, I only need one for now)... I need to do something about the inner arch on mine also (about an inch inwards from the lip) so may end up having to fab something out of mesh + chemical metal for the inner lip to ...
You could get away with the standard gearbox, but you might have to uprate the clutch... does the SuperCharger clutch fit in there??? No, diff sizes IIRC. When I did my SC conversion (using an NA gearbox) I had to use the NA flywheel/Clutch to mate up to the NA box. Anyway my SC puts out similar po...
I've owned two. 89 SC GTLD + TOYS but not quite SE. (bought and written off in 2001) 88 UK NA (Bought in 2001, converted to SC using above salvage in 2001 + mods) - currently undergoing "restoration" Both dark blue 8e3, both t-bar, current one has black interior (leather), first one had bl...
I had a Mongoose on my sc which broke, the hanger failed which punctured a large hole in the rear box... EXACTLY the same thing happened to me. Drivers side hanger flipped into the back box due to poor weld. Fensport would have possibly replaced it under the warranty but they needed it back to insp...
aah the lesser spotted silver mk1b (not the mk1a platinum/goldish colour). Shame they didn't do em in that colour after... 87 was it?
My joint 2nd favourite mk1 colour after Dark Blue Mica (8e3), along with Black.
Very nice
Late to the show here but I have info nonetheless. I own a 95 GR (V6 ~170bhp) the later rebadged GX had 180. The GPX had a shade under 200bhp and the 1.8 gs isn't even worth talking about, it's a dog. The V6 FTO's are very nice. They handle amazingly (Yes I was actually shocked coming from my MK1 wi...
As far as looks are concerned... MK1b (with late spec non UK lights and SC engine lid, even if you don't have an SC) all the way :) The mk1a is a classic beauty, but it takes a certain type of owner to appreciate it's akward/oldfashioned detailing (done mainly because Toyota didn't know better at th...
Personally I like the dark blue metallic and before a colour change I'd have bash at spraying it. After some deliberation I think you are right. It would be alot easier to do the bits that need doing than the whole car - maybe in a couple of years I will respray it but I washed and polished it on t...
