Re: [Mk1] [NA] Previously owned an MK1... Should I take the plunge again?

Why dont you get an SW20? ABS, Side impact protection, bigger car with more safety features etc :-) Forgive the ignorance but SW20? And yeah it is a serious question... thing is I've always considered myself a safe enough driver to not worry about it. Untill now. Just had an accident that I just co...

[Mk1] [NA] Previously owned an MK1... Should I take the plunge again?

Hello All :D Long time member, Previously owned an MK1 T-bar and had lots of problems... nearly all rust orientated but absolutely loved it to bits. Now I've been offered another on long term loan and I'll probably be able to buy it very cheap come the end of the loan. Bearing in mind that I just ma...

Re: Overfuelling

Slightly different but on the same subject... mine pops in between gear changes (At high revs), is this a sign of overfuelling? As mine does seem Thirsty (MK1) though that could be just a symptom of the £25 fuel tank appearing to run down twice as fast as a £50 one when it's actually because there's...

MK1 T-Bar Slowly Dissolving

Ok... So I know this subject Must have been posted a million times but I really am starting to think about getting rid of my little baby when I'd really rather not. After all, it's the best car I've ever driven. Wheel Arches. I have Rusty ones. Now I've patched them up in the interest of it looking ...

MK1 Downpipe... just won't stay sealed

Well I was selling the car but now it has an exhaust problem… Can’t get it to seal and stay sealed at the manifold… Keeps dropping loose again anyone got any ideas/Tricks to make it stay? It’s been back to the garage who fitted it a total of ten times now. What should I be doing to make it sti...

Re: Alternator problem.

tell me about it... and once you've done it once with the alternator (On mine anyway) you certainly don't wanna do it again. The tightest fit I've ever come across, it was a big stick and hammer job the remove it on mine, would've taken the new one back to get my money back (Since it didn't work) bu...

Re: Sluggish MK1

I expect grazed knuckles every time I open the Engine Bay.

would u recommend a DIY job? I'm always scared of messing the timing up and writing off the engine.

Re: Alternator problem.

you're expecting the dim battery light? well when my first one gave up I got that and then once the revs made it work the light went out. when I fitted the new one which didn't work at all I got no lights, all seemed well but the charge meter reading half what it should have done. I'd get the altern...

Re: Alternator problem.

I had no end of problems changing one on my MK1. whatever I did to the new one while fitting it I don't know but it wouldn't charge... at all. Think I probably blew it by not disconnecting the battery. does it start charging if u give it loadsa revs? it used to on mine when the old one started to gi...

Re: Sluggish MK1

Mileage is just short of 94k and I got the car very cheap so no surprises that there's no handbook or anything else with it. would the toyota sticker be on the top of the cam belt cover? End of the day if I can't tell then it'll have to be done to be safe. What would u expect to pay for it doing? an...

Re: Sluggish MK1

OK... Plug gaps are definitely out, can't set em though till I get some feelers at the weekend. One thing I have noticed ias that it sounds a little more Ticky (If that's even a word) at low revs. Mean anything to anyone? Are these things really comfortable revving right up to 6 or 7k? I know the re...

Re: Sluggish MK1

Right... a fair few to have a look at there... I'll be a very pleased man if my car turns out to be re tuneable. Not one for mods but restoring it back to it's original performance, that's a different story. Well the T-VIS seems fine because it does liven up around 4500 but not as much as it used to...
