Re: Engine oil.
Would 10/40 or 15/40 be best? Was having this discussion with a friend the other day. Think we settled on 10/40 for UK but just wanted some opinions. Depends really. YOu don't quite know how the engine was treated before you (in the 20 odd years) so i'd go 10/40, but then if your losing some go 15/...

Valve oil seals - bronze/silver which is which???
Hi all. Doing an engine re-build on a 4agze. I've got my engine gasket set and I have 8x bronze coloured valve oil seals and 8x silver coloured ones. Which ones are exhaust and which inlet? Also what is the difference, why different materials?

Re: Suggestion for IMOC product
What about a nice IMOC pen? decent refill one would be good, think they's sell well. Also IMOC sunstrip . Go nicely on my mk1 when it's back on the black stuff in December.

What an idiot it even says that in the previous message. Will read through properly next time before asking questions that have been answered. DOH.

Re: Mk1 MR2 Conversion ideas, prices, places to source bits etc etc.
If I saved that much though to afford a 3SGTE then i'd prob go the route of hmm another few months of saving and i could afford a Camaro... . Almost bought an iroc-z28 once but got a Mk2 MR2 instead. Sold the Mk2 though preferred the Mk1.

Re: Mk1 MR2 Conversion ideas, prices, places to source bits etc etc.
I'd love nothing more than to do a 3SGTE :) only i can't afford the engine with everything to run it let alone the cost of brake upgrades and suspension down the line. Could leave the car an engineless shell and save for a year though to acheive 3SGTE status... Hmmm... Would mean using my poxy 98' s...

Re: Mk1 MR2 Conversion ideas, prices, places to source bits etc etc.
Is the alternator and starter any different from the 87-89 4age engine to the 4agze used in Levin's?

Re: Mk1 MR2 Conversion ideas, prices, places to source bits etc etc.
As far as the 20v goes the 16 v header fits less the two outer holes (though nothing 15 mins with a welder won't fix) which enabling me to use my current exhaust. I have a C52 gearbox where I can mount the starter inlet side to avoid that problem (though with 16v header i'm not sure it would be prob...

Mk1 MR2 Conversion ideas, prices, places to source bits etc etc.
Okey Dokey. Had my Mk1 for just over 4 years and decided i've spent too much on it and like the lil begger too much to get rid of it. Had my engine out as lost 4litres of oil in 14 miles. Not good. Found my block was warped and one of my pistons is... well it's mullered. I'm thinking ok time for a c...

Re: anyone tried one of these gaskets for the MK1?
I tried swapping all sensors, loom, ECU, inectors etc - had all the later manifolds everything and nothing would work till I changed all electricals to the old stuff on the new engine. Can't remember if I changed the distributor and ignition coil though thinking about it, would that have made a diff...

Re: anyone tried one of these gaskets for the MK1?
A bit off subject from gaskets but are you swapping a 1985-1987 engine with a post 1987 later lump? I've done two of these but in both occasions have had to use the old inlet manifold, old sensors injectors loom etc to get the newer engine too work. Even though when I swapped I didn't just change th...
