Alternator

I'm trying to change the alternator on my Mk1a, as I tried to start it last weekend, only to be greeted by lots of smoke and screetching noises = seized! I've got the old one off, but the replacement I have doesn't have the pulley attached. This may sound like a daft question, but how do you remove ...

Re: Mk1a/b engine compatability

J-T, you'll love the MK1a ECU however, it makes the engine rev much more willingly!!!! It's fantastic!!! I used to have a MK1b with all MK1b stuff in the engine. My new MK1a now has the best of both worlds, it has the stronger MK1b engine block and gear box but with the more aggressive MK1a ECU! As...

Mk1a/b engine compatability

Just a quick question before i go buying an engine, if i try and fit a mk1b engine into my 1a, will i need the loom and ecu from the b engine, or will it plug and play with 1a ecu? is there anything else i'd need?

Re: Repair or sell?

Either way looks a beaut of an example..... Repair and keep her! £200 for engine tops £300 to fit..... er.... although it looks pretty.... the courtesy switches have been removed and bodged over, that means the door posts are full of filler Who is doing mk1 engine replacements for £300?? No it isn't...

Repair or sell?

ok, to anyone who didnt read my previous thread, my MR2's engine is now dead (died the very day i took pics of it to sell!). This has left me in a bit of an awkward situation, in that it literally 2 weeks ago went through its MOT, in preparation for me to sell it (and needed a new rear caliper). Ove...

Re: Engine probs - I'm Being Punished!

well, whatever it was, it's f****d, (and i am quoting my local friendly mechanic!). It is dead, has ceased to be etc etc. So now im left with the decision of what to do with the thing. I can't fit an engine, i'd have to pay to get it done. does anyone have a rough idea what the labour cost of that w...

Engine probs - I'm Being Punished!

I've just spent aaaalll day cleaning my 2, as by tonight i intended to have it on ebay. well, it definitely has other plans!! Basically, i took it round the block to take some pictures of it. however, during the drive, i noticed a slight rattle under acceleration. This rattle got progressively loude...

Re: MOT results

MOT man said the cable isnt acting on that side, indicating the caliper is probably seized (or at least the handbrake mechanism). Like i say i had the same prob with my corollas, which used the same setup. Was quite surprised tbh, as the handbrake on this is way better than on my corollas :)

MOT results

It didn't pass

However, i cn't moan too much, as it's only failed on the handbrake, which ain't too bad for a 23 year old MR2 :)

So i'm reckoning the caliper will have gone (had the same problem on my AE82 corolla). Is brakes international the best place for a replacement?

Re: MA61 Supra wheels

Yeh, i thought the AE86 had a different bolt pattern. they won't fit then #-o

it's the pre-86 supra i was after, but i don't think they'll fit tbh

Re: MA61 Supra wheels

does anyone know what offset they acually are? i've searched on the inernet, but can't find any figures for celicas/supras that old. i think they're the same as AE86 corollas, so does anyone know their offset? :)

MA61 Supra wheels

Are these wheels the correct offset for the MR2? i remember looking at fitting a set of these to my AE82 corolla a few years back, but they wouldn't fit that. anyone know id they'll go on the MR2?

i think it's probs a respray, but the paint was available then, as the audi quattro came in the same colour (and looked pretty awesome in it!)

Factory Colour?

Was there ever either a special order, or special edition pearlescent white colour available around 1986? As far as i know, i've never heard of it, but there's a 1a on ebay in that colour and he's saying it's a factory colour. ususally, i'd just think he's wrong, but i can remember a C reg corolla G...

Re: Opinions please...

Lol, the mirror don't bother me too much, was just looking for ideas on possible causes on it not working. when i said '2 things' i meant the paint & suspension (although i don't suppose i can really count a full suspension overhaul as one thing :) )
