Re: Big flatspot on Bluetop 4AGE- but I think I might have an idea

Hi Lauren You finally bought one then... :) I'd love to have a drive in one but not sure I'd want to pay the £££ to own one. Is the 4 to 1 exhaust standard? I know virtually nothing about these cars. If it isn't then maybe the 4 to 1 is causing the flat spot as it might be adversely affecting the VE...

Re: Mark 1 Super Editon on eBay!!

That needs to be saved Realisitically, what is there to save? Compared to a normal SC an SE isn't *that* special, the seats are the most interesting point about them but these look to be ****ed anyway, the mirrored tbars are nice to have but normal ones can be mirrored cheaply. After that all you'v...

Re: Rally Car

It does sound really good... :)

BTW it does seem to have a high ride height. Not sure if it is the same as stock...

I know next to nothing about suspension but I would have expected to see it sitting a bit lower. Is that to allow clearance for big bumps etc?

Re: Slow mk1b??? Need help!

One person's 'fast' is another person's 'slow' so why not stick it in third gear at 2500 rpm on a flat clear road (has to be flat) and measure how long it takes to get to 3000/4000/5000/6000rpm Then compare it with others on here :) I might take out my totally std 60k miles and fairly mint mk1b tomo...

Re: Rally Car

I'm slightly confused by the graph. I don't see how you can get 200bhp at the flywheel (or 175bhp at the wheels) from a 1.6NA 4AGE that is only revving at 8000rpm? Especially if it also delivers over 60bhp at the wheels (graph) at maybe 3000rpm? Also the torque scaling seems way off. Am I misreading...

Re: SC running poorly

How are the earths? It maybe worth adding a few more as they are very important on the 4agze. The supercharger does turn on its own with the engine sometimes. Sorry to hear this is still causing an issue :( It's definitely worth checking the earths :) :thumleft: However, please be careful about add...

Re: what MPG do you get out of your MK1?

Well something bad is happening to mine recently then :( If you time how much longer the engine takes to warm up from cold with the heater + blower on compared to off you might see a difference because the ECU will remain on warm up enrichment for longer with the heater on. This is because the cool...

Re: Breakdown last night - fuel or cam timing?

This is from memory (so could be wrong) but I thought that code 11 can be generated on a healthy car if you press the throttle whilst you are looking for codes with the wire link fitted in the check connector. Try clearing the codes and next time don't touch the throttle during the time you read the...

Re: back fire!! from new car

I'd also check for intermittent air leaks in the MAP sensor piping. Also, do a combustion gas test on the coolant to see if the head gasket seal is suspect. It might be starting to leak enough (hot and pressurised) coolant back into the engine during cooldown to cause a misfire on startup (dunno if ...

Re: 4AGE budget cam install and tuning

Hi Vashy If the pin is grounded you will get both the extra fuel map and the ignition map. They switch together and you can't have one without the other. Is there any way you could check to see if the injectors are going 100% duty on a flat out run? If they are then the extra map can't add any more...

Re: 20 valve engine conversion, help.

Hi Paul Thanks for the info :thumleft: Please don't laugh but part of the reason I asked for the absolute engine weights rather than the difference was that after driving an Elise I wondered what it would be like with a 4AGE in it. I don't like the K series engine either  But the 4AGE engine is...

Why should i? Is that a test? I have all of the various engine/transmission weights with and without fluids to within 1kg. I also have various weight transfer figures post conversion, which i'd share if i thought you were genuinely interested Jeremy. Grow up. I'm pretty sure most of us know that. T...

I just would like to know the weights. We've had this debate many times but you never release the weights of the engines when asked. I'm sure you know the weights. I used your "know everything about Mr2 engine swaps" quote as a prompt for information Of course you did  .... my days ...

Then you ask me to prove it by listing engine and gearbox weights direc...

Re: 20 valve engine conversion, help.

The 4WD Impreza would totally outperform the MR2 on typical twisty A roads and B roads. But I really don't want an Impreza. Or an Evo. Again, you might be surprised.. It would have to be a big BHP Evo or Impreza to 'totally out perform' even a mk1.5 running standard boost.. they handle as well as a...

Re: 20 valve engine conversion, help.

So according to your mate, to outdo Porsche, Audi and Lotus over the last two decades all a car manufacturer has to do is buy up old mk1 MR2 donor cars (25 year old tech) and put a 1MZ engine in it?

Re: 20 valve engine conversion, help.

I guess it's very much each to their own, but Jeremy i cannot agree with your weight argument, an engine converted car only adds more weight where the centre of gravity is, that's also where the passenger goes and where your full tank of petrol is, and dare i say it there are people who drive Mk1's...
