Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Water leak!

changing water pump is not hard - you just have to remove lots of stuff to do it. as long as youre methodical it shouldnt be a problem. bloke gave me a tip for changing cam belt - fairly obvious but i'll put it up anyway. get some tipex and mark a tooth on the cam pulleys and crank pulley, mark the ...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Major problem!! SOLVED!! Captive nut on rear sub-frame

You will probably find that it is the captive nut inside the rear sub-frame which has failed. This link will assist. There is a photo by poohbear which points out where you need to look. http://mr2oc.co.uk/ForumsPro/viewtopic/t=82119/highlight=captive.html When do I get my £10 again?? I could just ...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Name that part

That a Rev2+ tie bar.

Think you'll be lucky to find bushes for that - i suspect it'll be a new tie bar. I further suspect you'll only get it from toyota and i lastly suspect you'll need a tube of vaseline.

i reserve the right to be wrong about any or all of the above

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Replacing rev2 suspension

Off the top of my head start of with a poly bush set. FRONT.... Lower suspension arm - no need to replace - bushes on subframe side will be in poly bush set. Ball joints ~ 60 each front tie bar (rev1 different from rev2+) Rev1's the bush can be replaced - rev2+ bush is integral and i suspect it woul...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Cat studs, help needed please!

looks like i havent explained myself properly. the stud is threaded at both ends. the flange on the cat side is threaded. therefore if your nut is siezed and the whole stud/nut is still turning then youre unscrewing the stud from the cat flange - keep turning and it will come out - you can then eith...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Cat studs, help needed please!

the stud is threaded on both ends - if your nut is siezed and you can still turn it then it could well be unscrewing the thread from the cat flange - or it could be about to shear off :D If nuts sieze halfway it can be because the threads have locked with the rust and crap on the stud thread - try t...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Been told my Head could be cracked ? Need confirmation please!

From the original post, it sounds like there was air in the system. Also sounds like you didnt get it out properly. did u use the two pipes, one on the heater matrix and one on the radiator? it does sound like you've got the air out now. I'd keep a close eye on it for the time being. Carry some cool...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] rocker cover gasket

never really solved it - tried tightening as hard as i could - even tried putting a phillips bit in a socket - never worked, they seemed tight enough but always undid themselves. my latest tubby (rev3+) has hex head bolts. I think this is probably just a design fault on the earlier cars. The leak wa...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] rocker cover gasket

before you go off replacing a gasket..... I'm assuming you have a leak to be thinking of a new gasket? dont know if this applies to the N/A but my old rev2 tubby used to leak small amounts of oil into the spark plug wells from this gasket. The problem is that the bolts holding the cover down have a ...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Rev 5 Exhaust Manifold

Yes - spot on. the noise does go when the engine is properly warm.
I'll be replacing the gaskets anyway.

Is there a known issue with the manifolds or is it safe to buy secondhand.

[Mk2] [Turbo] Rev 5 Exhaust Manifold

I bought the car a couple of weeks back having been told the exhaust manifold had been changed (albeit for a second hand part). After investigating a noise while running this week i've found out that the manifold has a crack on top about 1/4 of the way in from the turbo side. Obviously my first thou...

Re: [Mk2] [Generic] Modifying the 3SFE?

Having had a 3s-fe and two turbo's now, i can probably offer a bit of insight. I did my usual trick of buying something, then reading up on it. Hence i ended up with a 3s-fe. I spent the first six months annoyed i didnt get the 3s-ge - until i drove one. The performance is very similar upto about 5....

[Mk2] [Turbo] Strange Coolant Leak

I say strange cos it's only leaks when i turn off the engine. I can drive to work (30 miles - mixture of m-way, A-roads and city centre) without a problem, but about 20 seconds after i turn off the coolant comes pi55ing out at quite a rate. The leak is coming from the back of the thermostat housing ...

do you recon it would be easy to do?

Forgive my undoubted Mk1 ignorance - but why?

complete (22 year old) engine transplant for 30 more bhp - why not go down the 3S-GTE route ?

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] As tears roll down my face steam continues to come out of tubby!

Sounds like they havent bled the system properly. Although I've never run an engine so hot the turbo stopped booting - that would worry me. When you say the coolant tank, i assume you're talking about the plastic tank on the rear engine bulkhead. If so, this is an expansion tank and should not be fu...

When I started reading this thread i was thinking alternator too. Had a similar problem about a year ago. One of the three wires into the alternator is a feed from the ignition live. In effect it's a signal wire to tell the alternator to output the current its producing. This wire was cracked in my ...

My car's just failed it's MOT on emmissions, twice what it should be, and thats a non-cat test :( the cars felt underpowered for a while now, but i've not had any time to find the problem. Can anyone recommed a decent garage/tuner in the north west Isn't Ian Ashton based around Wigan? any help much ...
