Cam cover removal / gasket part numbers help
Just ordered a new Electrostart (thanks for the recommendation Shinny) alternator - fingers crossed it'll be a good 'un. Before I attempt that re-install I am going to replace the cam cover gaskets as I suspect an oil leak is what goosed the previous one (saw less than 2,000 miles). Looking at my en...

Re: Alternators - much of a muchness?
Ooooooh, I don't think you said NA in the original post and for some reason I assumed turbo. I've also bought a rev3 alt from ElectroStart which is happy three years on. Mine was listed as "A388 Toyota MR2 16V SW20 92-99 Alternator 101211-5460" and here's ElectroStart's alt now listed as ...

Re: Alternators - much of a muchness?
for the relative small amount of money they cost, just go for something like this: https://mr2-ben.co.uk/products/505 The cost is relative! My alternative is only about 3 years old and only done about 2k miles! I'm not keen on keep rebuying over and over. I have to say though, being able to almost ...

Alternators - much of a muchness?
So my alternator went. Thanks to the good people here (via FB) I managed to get the bu88er out. So now I'm going to buy a new one. New as in 'new' not 'refurbed' or 'recond'. My logic is that hopefully it'll be better and last longer. My outgoing alternator has only seen a few thousand miles over ma...

Re: Interior trim anyone had this?
Nice - I've been thinking about retrimming my dashboard (after sitting in a Porsche with alcantara trim). I guess the 'easy' option is to buy a second hand dash and do all the gluing off the car and then swap over. Bookmarked the seller just in case I feel brave one day! I hate the sun reflection of...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Alternator... again!
Before condemning the alt itself check the wiring to it. Common problem is the alt sense wire, black and yellow iirc. If you Google testing the alt wires there is plenty of info out there about how to and which wires etc. As for the alt itself, have you considered removing it yourself? Not too diff...

Anyone know if nuttasie is still active on the mr2 or car forums. Her certainly had an eye on achieving a perfect finish.
I wanted to get in touch with him about some of his fibreglass work.

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Alternator... again!
my NA has done 9k this year in all weather and the replacement alternator is still going strong. The last car was 3 years on the the stock (original) alternator and althrough it lived in a garage overnight, it was driven in all weather and covered about 20k in the 3 years. sometimes the rebuilds ar...

[Mk2] [NA] Alternator... again!
So I broke down in London two days before Christmas with the familiar (to me) Christmas tree dashboard and my stereo going loopy. Experience tells me the alternator has gone and indeed the call out service confirmed that. On inspection though I notice that the belt is still fine and the unit spins f...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] MOT fail - emissions - help assessing level of failure
Thanks all. I'm going to the tests Gazza_DJ recommends and see if i can just put some high temp sealant at the suspected leak point by the crush gaskets. Feel like i should have insisted that the tester ran it again. not like I can now just borrow the equipment from someone to test it's in range! I ...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] MOT fail - emissions - help assessing level of failure
All good advice above.. Stick some of this in the tank before the test day and make sure it's driven enough to pull though to the injectors by the test time. This stuff works magic. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Forte-Lubricants-Advanced-Formula-Treatment/dp/B0035PSQ30/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1536422...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] MOT fail - emissions - help assessing level of failure
A good old fashioned Italian tune up just before testing will solve that. Thanks for swift response. So the Italian tune is an actual thing. That's where you drive at high revs in first and second right? Someone suggested that speed is also quite an import part of it. Ie I can't just rev to 30MPH -...

[Mk2] [NA] MOT fail - emissions - help assessing level of failure
Hi guys, Put my UK N/A back on the road after a couple of years of being SORN I have failed my MOT on the dreaded emissions part. I am currently assessing my repair list but before that I wondered just how off I am of passing. I did think that the car probably wasn't hot enough. Had old fuel that pe...

Replacement Mr2 sills - ball park cost
As above really. For too many years I've ignored a small rust hole on my Mr2. Even worse I've tried to cover my eyes to it by putting sideskirts on. Seems like the rear sill is now a more commonly manufactured part and routine area of repair. To that end, has anyone used or can attest to the quality...

Re: if you live in London, what insurance company do you use for your mk2 NA?
Hello All, I am under 25, clean driving record, never had any points, never made an insurance claim and never had an accident but I think I have a high risk post code. I was going to get an mk2 after earning my 3rd NCB but now the insurance prices seem to have increased so I might not be able to af...

Stealth sale, John, I never saw that coming, especially with the recent work gone into putting a full TRD kit on plus respray and new wheels! I know Craig, it's only just sinking in with me but tbh the timing was right regarding the work situation and it's just not getting used. I'd much rather see...

Re: Glass colour - any UK differences?
It will definitely be green, don't get blue, may not look too bad when dry but when wet will look very blue compared to the rest of the windows. Contry to the above post my Rev3 UK car is most certainly green tint and not blue, and all glass original Toyota except screen. Can't speak for previous r...
