Through

Thanks for the advice guys. Next stupid question, what is the best route through the car? I had assumed it would be easy enough to go along the centre console, but looking at the front bulkhead there isn't a lot of room. My car had A/C which was removed, but there is a lot of electrical stuff in the...

Daft

I started doing this and to test the set up out I have ended up with a red battery cable running down the outside of the car :) Anyway, now I know everything works I need to decide do I go through the car or under the car with the cable? I like the idea of taking Paul's advice and following the spee...

Wheeler Dealers

If they are running them in order, I think that the MK1 MR2 Wheeler Dealers is on Quest tomorrow evening (Thursday 19th).

Wooden ramps

Been using a solid set of wooden ramps made from surplus decking for about 10 years, but I wouldn't trust something hollow made out of chipboard!

Useful

I've been meaning to do this for 2 years, bought a battery tray, cable, glands. This post has been really useful, I'll finish the job this Spring.

MK1 - Whiteabbey Roundabout, Belfast

Today, Monday 4th - MK1 in light blue I think, looked like it had come a cropper on the roundabout. Tow truck in attendance. Was rush hour 5pm traffic. If it was anyone on here, hope you and the car are okay.

Thermostat housing

Quick question...

Is the thermostat housing on the SC and NA the same?

Also, are there any other Toyota models that used the same thermostat?

The thermostat housing on my car is damaged and I'm looking to replace it when I change the coolant again.

Ta in advance.

SC fuel economy

I have a cut-out switch on my car which knocks the SC off completely. Main reason is because it has a big pulley fitted and I'd be lucky to get 28 mpg if I'm driving lively. With the cut-out activated, the car drops to about 90 BHP, is fine for town driving and fuel economy improves to about 35 mpg....

Cable through

I'd rather not cut the cable if possible and have a straight run from the battery to the engine bay and use a fusible link at the battery end. I was thinking of going down the centre tunnel, shortest distance between the two points. As for the spare wheel, my wife's new car didn't have one and this ...

Re: Long lead

Just make sure you put plenty of thought into the routing of the positive cable, particularly where it passes through bulkheads etc. It's an unfused live cable with very high current carrying capability. Suffice to say you don't want there to be any possibility of the insulation chafing on anything...

Long lead

Thanks for the photo Lauren, that does look pretty straightforward and must be a lot less bother than having the battery in the original place when it comes to charging and so on.

I'm going to seriously consider that mod.

Re: Supercharger battery

Monkeymax, sounds like a good plan, I might take a scoot round my favourite scrapyards next week. The battery I have fitted is from an Astra and it has plastic covers over each terminal that cover the connections completely, but I'd like to have the intercooler supported on both sides if possible. O...

Back-to-front

That's a good point about reversing the terminals. I don't want to buy another battery, but I'm wondering if I could make the leads longer so I could turn the battery round and keep the terminals away from the intercooler. I started threading some steel rod (re-cycled from an old computer printer, a...

Key

I had to replace the key on mine. Apparently it was designed as a fail point if the right-angle drive seized, which is very common. Mine had seized up with gunge and old oil, but I got it free with a can of WD-40 and an afternoon turning it by hand in front of the TV. Mind you, that was nearly 10 ye...

Bigger battery

I'd be interested in any neat solutions to this. I fitted a 60Ahr battery to my SC last spring, changed the terminals and used a clamp from a scrap Citroen to hold the battery in place, but I ended up bodging a thing to keep the inter-cooler in place and I'd like to make something sensible this year...

Long shot

This is probably a long shot, but the ECU uses 2 power transistors to drive the ISCV and it might be worth testing the output from the ECU to the ISCV. I did this by checking for voltage with the car running on both the 'open' and 'close' connection.

Insurance

My last renewal was £195 for an SC with misc engine mods, aftermarket alloys and a sports exhaust, capped at 3000 miles. I'm in NI and that's a good price because the market here is very small and imports are hard to get covered. I used to use Houghton's, then they stopped covering NI, same with all...
