Turbo Vs Esprite

Post by Graeme Shaw »

Hi Folks

A couple of months ago i posted about having a go at a Lotus Esprite.
Basically i let him go infront off a rounda bout onto the motorway, and he puled about 2 car lengths on me upto about 90mph where i started to reel him in and got along side him before breaking for traffic.

At the time i had a knackered clutch, a coolant leak and a blown head gaskett!

Up till now i didnt know what kind it was.

Well i met the guy in a bar i was working in over Christmas, as i reconised him when we flew off the roundabout.
I mentioned it to him, and he remembered.
He asked about mine as he was impressed.

Any way it turns out his is the 3.5litre V8 twin turbo!
He rekons it pushes about 350bhp?

I rekon with my new mods i could keep up with it!

All the best

Lotus Esprit 3.5 litre V8 Twin Turbo
0-60 mph: 4.4 sec
0-100 mph: 11 sec
Quarter Mile: 13 sec @ 112 mph
Top Speed: 175 mph

I doubt very much I'd be able to keep up with that..!

Those stats aren't far off a tweeked tubby mate :)

Good kill!
Small turbos - they're not big and they're not clever!

Just say NO to small turbos!

Esprit owners are nuttier than we are, and do tune their cars too btw.

I was a passenger in a V8TT a while back- they are very quick, especially from 100mph-165mph, and they keep full boost even at the redline in 5th.
Fantastic cars. (the 0-100 time looks very conservative- 9.5 would be MUCH closer to the mark)

Is that all> :?: I thought they would cost a lot more than that considering the workshop charges £100 per hour (nearly as much as Mr T)
