Mr2 Mk2 - Engines Front or Rear?

Post by cbart_01 »

Is it just the turbo'd Mk2 MR2's that have an engine in the back, or do the Non-Turbo'd ones as well?

Ne1 got pics?

All MR2's have their engines in the back/middle of the car. Regardless of year or spec :wink:

M = Midship
R = Runabout
2 = 2 Seater

Thats the actual meaning, b0ll0x as it is. I believe its on some of the mk3 badges.

The term 'runabout' makes it sound like a car that housewives would use to take the kids to school or do the shopping in. :)

Trust me when I tell you that it has not changed. If you get someone to translate the Japanes brochers for the MR2, you will find that it is in fact..Midship Runabout two-seater.

:wink:

They may well be worded a little different as not all things make a great deal of sense when translated directly from one language to another :?

yeah, uk brochure defo says mid rear 2. if i can sort my scanner out i'll post it on here. looks like that was the original intention to call it a mid rear two...and makes more sense too.

It does sound stupid as runabout, but everywhere i've read, that what its been called. It must be a translation thing, or just the fact it was called something different over here because it does sound so weird

But in Japland they use some incredibly cringeworthy names for their cars in english.

If you look at the toyota EPC you will find:

Duet
New model
Nadia
Gaia
Progress
Origin
Sparky
Deliboy
Stout

So it is entirely plausible (and true) that MR2= Midship Runabout 2 seater.

Think about it.
