FULLY FORGED - New pics of the car (page36) + 1/4 mile times

Post by Gullzter »

Hi, just got myself a Tubby yesterday..

Its been a long couple of months looking for another tubby all started when i had my rev2 and needed a little work which when i decided i was going to start i had read up enough to make me lose interest in the rev2 (kind of).
I decided i was going to get the rev3 onwards with the different turbo and better gaskets however after a week or 2 i realised being on a budget it was going to prove difficult and i was going to have to eat, breath, s*** and sleep mr2.
So i decided to make favorite pages on several sites and i would check them hourly for a rev3 onwards. I had almost lost all hope til friday afternoon when i seen a black turbo t-bar for sale, it was for cheapness IMO and certainly needs a few things fixed but ill take pride in having it done.

So things so far that will definitely need done:
Front springs have been lowered with original dampers so i will either put original springs on or maybe put a full coilover set on.
Car had been sitting for a year not being driven so brakes were sticky but long drive sorted that however i will get them checked for extent of damage and get new pads at least all round.
18" split rims need refurbed but tbh i dont like 18s
Hole at bottom of drivers door through rust, will just keep my eyes open for a replacement good con door in exactly the same colour (may take time).
Short shift gear stick, needs to go (not for me at all)
Rev4 spoiler on it might need to go and get the rev5 spoiler back on it.
Has a hks bov on it which im not too sure about yet.

I wont be doing anything crazy to this car for now, taking it to the garage this week at some point but just going to get it in good driving condition then i will look at small asthetic things, ie changing the side vents as i dont like the strip that goes from side to side, id rather have it fully open like my last mr2.

Will update this as i go along and get some pics up

Thanks for reading
Munir

how do you know its a rev5, looks like a 4 to me.

You should have no problems sourcing a black non rusty door, think there's two black one being broken at minute :-k \:D/

Im not 100% on it, originally i thought it was a rev4 myself but i spoke to a friend who is better placed than me with jap importa and has said the rev4s were not produced in late '98.
To his knowledge the last produced rev4s were '97.
Also according to him my chassis number is not a rev4 either.
Ive been digging through various sites though for more info.

Were Rev3s produced in October of 1998?

So i took my car down to a garage and got a few things checked over..

They told me i need 2 new front top mounts, front brake pads, the springs at front have been chopped by previous owner (probably to try and lower the car) ](*,) also the offside front and rear calipers are sticky (not sure if they need replaced yet) and handbrake doesnt go on full on at all on one of the brakes.

So ive sourced a pair of uprated top mounts from GTSchris, im not sure whether to get new or used springs :-k havent sourced front pads yet

So what i will be getting is the front top mounts and springs replaced, front pads replaced, calipers cleaned out and freed off along with fixing the handbrake issue, 4 wheel alignment and geomatory set up as the steering is way out!

There is also an issue with a bit of misfire just now so im thinking about replacing the spark plugs, leads, rotor and dizzy cap (most likely will attempt it myself)

Any advice would be appreciated, post here or feel free to pm me

So a small job update, found quite a bit of a leak in the t-bar roof..

Done the silicone and cling film trick! Not sure if it has worked yet as i just did it a few hours ago but will update next time its pissin down.

What i used:

Black anti-funghi silicone from screwfix (£2.99)
Cling film from any supermarket (under £1)
Adhesive tube gun thingy from poundshop (£1)
Damp cloth
Stanley knife may help to cut away excess silicone once finished

Decided in the end to attempt the work myself with the help of some members on here, Dale for doing the work while i stood and watched most of the time  And Glen for helping me with some advice.

Work carried out:

New front top mounts
Replaced front springs which i found out were NOT chopped afterall and in decent condition
New front droplinks (that was fun)!!

Image

Also found out the rear offside caliper isnt sticking so it is only the front one which i have ordered and will do in next week or 2 along with front brake pads.
Ordered NGK iridium grade7 plugs as i plan on upping power soon after mechanical issues sorted so will do usual service items along with oil filter, new oil (still unsure what to use) and petrol tank flush thingy.
After i have sorted the brakes i will send the car in for alignment and geomatry with my new wheels to put on for that job.
Also i will hopefully be putting a Apexi induction on in next week or 2 aswell then ill be looking into exhaust system

New caliper fitted along with front pads

Apexi induction fitted aswell and sounds very deep
Performance wise it is day and night for me, spools up a bit faster now which i didnt expect as much as it is so very pleased with that!
