Stuck on suspension! Quoted £356 + VAT!

Post by JappyBeast »

Right, my car has had a strange sideways wobble thing when I go over a bump, its been going on for some time now so I took it into the garage (local) to get it looked at as I went thru a set of rear tyres in a matter of months.

Thinking it would be just a worn bush, turned out to be worn shocks all round.

The guy checked and there is no play anywhere else so it must be the shocks.

Got the quote,

Front shocks £55 each
Rear £63 each
Labour £120

Then VAT ontop.

What should I do?.. these prices are for stock shocks. Does it cost much more for lowered stuff? I dont know what I'm buying. When you get a lowering kit, do u use your old shocks?
Should I buy Turbo Shocks to lower my car?
Does the above price look right?

Any pointers would be great.

Price looks about right but you can get a set of KYBs shock absorber inserts for slightly less!

The shocks won't lower your car, it's the springs that reduce ride height.

The labour they've quoted seems pretty good if you ask me, it took me at least 2hrs per suspension strut to swap mine!

cars are normally lowered by using shorter springs, so yes your original shocks would need to be used. fitting turbo shocks would be a bad idea unless you fit the turbo springs with them

Mate

You forgot to spray your bonnet :D

get it lowered and uprate the shocks it will look much better. Its a shame to have the bodykit and not lowered. You will be so happy with the new look.

I'm still a little fuzzy on this one, cant I just buy the cheapo stock shocks and pay a little more later to get it lowered when I get my new wheels?

You could definitely go that route Jappy, but stock shocks aren't really designed to be fitted to a lowered car and they won't last as long as an uprated gas shock absorber if you lower the car (AFAIK). It may be better to put uprated shocks on then lower the car.

Fensport do KYBs for £54.50+vat (front and rear) if you're worried about the price. They will give a firmer ride and improve the handling of the car. Otherwise other shock absorbers are available!

Depends really what you want out of the car.

Cost effective route - bilsteins from the turbo models and a set of lowered springs !

Setup the car just nice... lower squatting appearance, less roll, less pitch and yaw, improved handling.

KYBs for £54.50+vat (front and rear)

So all I need to do is buy a set of 4 and then get em fitted?.. dont need to buy anything else?

Its cheaper than stock and a better ride?

Sorry to keep going on about it but my car goes in, in a week.

Cheers.

Just looked at the Fensport site and it seems like a good deal, and I just use my old springs?

Best tell my garage not to order toyota bits!

What does this mean?
