Mk1.5 - Does is drift?!

Post by Charged »

Well, not with me behind the wheel

BUT, give it to a 'professional' drifter to have a go and yes, it does drift, surprisingly well!

I let Lex from drift what you bring (shameless plug for Lex: http://dwyb.co.uk/ ) have a go in my 1.5 in the rain on Saturday at SantaPod.. Lex was very up front and said to me 'you know it wont drift'.. my reply (as to be fair I've had a sideways a few times) was 'oh go on, have a go at least! ' Lex to be fair didn't realise it was engine swapped until just before he drove it.

So he did! And he did a damned good job! I was in the passenger seat, one second pooing myself, next laughing, then screaming in excitement, then encouraging him, then pooing myself again..

WOW, just wow.

Video to follow :thumleft: :thumleft: :thumleft:

Yeah they can be drifted, even with just 4AGE in it.

Its awesome to be sat in it feeling it go sideways, though unerving not to be behind the wheel in your own car!

I've done it in a 4AGE powered one. Admittedly it was on grass which helped, but yes, they can be drifted. Awesome fun! :)

Definitely unnerving, that's for sure!

Lex was impressed with the car and for once didn't kill it (he has a habbit of breaking peoples cars  )

The thing that impressed me most is how he smoothly flicked it one way, then back the other.. any old fool can get the back end out but getting the transition right for the next turn takes skill.

All good fun I'm sure, but to me it just looks like nasty abuse of a car when ever I see people doing it. At the very least a waste of tyres :?

It's great fun Matt.. especially someone showing you what your own car can do.. luckily it was a wet day so my tyres didn't really suffer. If you go to any events where there are drift passenger rides, it is well worth having a qucik go, I think it only costs £5 a go.

I'm still trying to track down a good video, the only one I have found only lasts about 2 seconds :(

I remember my mate having a bit of a play in a carpark in a Cossie once. I was in the passenger or back seat. The big thing I remember is the tyre smoke in the cabin and it utterly stinking until I was nearly sick :pale:

Lex is a master at drifting though, he's been doing it for years!

My SC would drift beautifully (it has a Quaife diff). I fully intend to take the TC to some drift events.
