the cheek of it ! G reg escort turbo

Post by marc GT Turbo »

well i travel to oldham alot at weekends to see the lady friend . the journey isnt to far 52.4 miles. the journey takes me on 4 different motorways and ive been doing this trip now for 2 years. as you can imagine , ive had a few good spirited drives  but this one on sat has left me in disbelief ! or maybe the skin head and track suit was a clue ........................ :-k so here's the situation , i am in the overtaking lane as a lorry is overtaking another lorry in the slow lane . its still daylight hours at this time and weather conditions are good. as i am passing the lorry in the middle lane , this black ford is flashing me out the way  and he was far to close for comfort . so i simply apply some boost , leave him for dead then pull into the middle lane. after a while he eventually went past me ( cloud of black smoke behind him) and i think well thats that . a few miles further on i see him again, and soon i am behind him . now this is where he really turned into a tit ! he kept backing off slightly then booting off ! a huge backfire and a flame appearing from his exhaust ( looked like a 6 " tail pipe #-o ) i owned him once easily , and i didnt want to be playing with a complete fool on the motorway . if i was to have speeded up , then it would of been wrong ! so i slowed a little and after 3 or 4 more attempts to burn the paint off my front bumper he bu88ered off . the bloke in the lorry who was overtaking the other lorry had caught up by now , and was gesturing some hand signs to me about the burk in the ford  well after a short while i left the motorway to join another one . guess who is at the traffic lights in front of me ! right , i may have looked like i was about to blow a fuse yeah but i didnt actually do anything ! honest ! he looks in his rear view mirror to see me looking at him and what he did next was shocking . the lights were still on red and he just shot off (lots of nasty ford smoke) in front of oncoming cars . luckily no accident but what the hell was this all about ? what was he doing ? making a point ? yes , old fords are very slow , leave alot of black smoke from the exhaust , and he must have been retarded. now if its a scooby , evo , gto , fto etc there is always a nod or wave and no fuss in my experiences but this was a complete idiot with a big exhaust and loud dumpvalve ](*,)

I think it all depends on the owner imho Rs have all ways been a bit of a love or hate but I think you can tell with in the first 5 seconds if the driver is a pleb or not. but they are become more and more rare as the plebs crash them.. :thumleft:

You can usually tell by the condition of the car of the type of owner.

If they look in really nice condition then they're generally worth a few quid and owned by decent people.
If they're knackered they've been bought by chavs.

I dont care about the repuations. I still smile when I see any RS that's been looked after. I've always had a soft spot for Series 1 Escort RS Turbo's even if they are pretty slow compared to other cars.

agree'd!
couple of my mates have RST's, one series 1 absolute minter & one with tidy series 2, both white, both fairly stock looking & both acvtually running the fabbled 200 bhp (every bloomin RST owner says theirs is, but these are RR proven)
476bhp & 415ft lb @ 1.9bar Magic by Ryan!
Gone, but never forgotten
Now with a mk1.5 & a NHB EP3

There's so much tuning potential with these. The fact they have garret turbo's as standard means you can interchange turbo's easily without the need for expensive kits. Every one and their uncle caters for them.

Still IMO one of the all time legends

Brilliant investments if you find mint ones as they just dont seem to depreciate when they're really well kept.

There was a time when anything with an RS bdage meant it was too hard to insure for most chavs but I think they're getting much cheaper these days.

IMO, this is the only Escort worth touching. My first car was a MkI (a 5-door; nothing sporty) and I still regret letting it go.

While i agree that mk 1 looks super cool just couldn't live with such an old car. I grew up being a passenger in the back of cars like that and even as a kid i didn't think much of them. Swings and round abouts. I get why people have such affection for them. Just not for me. Even the sierra cosworth is pushing the bounds of what i can live with. I just don't like old interiors generally.

You're right, of course - my MKI was 21 years old when I had it in 1996. The seats were sprung like mattresses, the suspension was bouncy as hell. Considering it was only a 1.3, it made a noise like you wouldn't believe (my neighbour worked nights and hated me!) and would skit all over the road at anything above 65mph. I was only just 17 so 'improving' it was well beyond my means.

Of course, the one in that pic I posted would never be a daily driver - it's not even a weekend car, let's face it. But as an attention-grabbing show car with proper rally heritage, the MKI would be in my Lottery Win 5-Car Garage every single time. :thumleft:

The Pannel Beater at work has one of them (the old style one) in 100% mint condition. When I say mint I mean not a mark on it at all!!. The Engine and engine bay looks brand new (No oil or dirt anywhere to be seen on or around the engine). He opened the bonnet and the engine bays paint work was just like the bodywork, Very shiney and highly polished White and some fancy looking chrome parts as well.

But yea, You will get the chavs buying the cheap rusted up nasty scabby ones.

I bet the one you saw was stolen, who else would look in their mirror, see someone and then run a red light from stand still in a car they owned?

Could be that he wasnt paying attention and just launched off without noticing.

Mad to think a nice Escort RS Turbo, series 1 or 2 will fetch more money than a tubby.

It's amazing to think so many people couldnt handle a car with only 130 or so bhp

They take about 9 seconds to get to 60 ffs lol.
