SW20 Big Brake Adapter Kit Group Buy.

Post by cantfindausername »

This is the Official Group Buy Thread for the Big Disc Conversion kit that I've designed.

A demonstration set of Adapters has been machined and test fitted to ensure correct alignment and Pad coverage of the Big Discs with the Stock MR2 Rev2+ Brake Calipers. These Adapters are now ready to be produced.

Please ensure that you read, and acknowledge back to me that you have read and agree to the disclaimer, if you decide you would like to be included in the Group Buy. This disclaimer will also apply when goods are received by you. If you do not acknowledge your agreement you will not be included in the Group Buy.

Below is some information on the Big Disc Conversion kit:

- The Adapters will be CNC Machined from 6061 Billet Aluminium.
- The Adapters will then be Hard Anodised.
- Once the Adapters are complete, the kit will be sent out via Parcel Force to those who have purchased.
- The full kit will comprise of:
2 x Front Brackets.
2 x Rear Brackets.
2 x Rear Disc Centering Rings.
Required Mounting Hardware.

If you don't require the whole kit you must clearly indicate this. Please state whether you require FRONT ONLY, REAR ONLY or FULL KIT.

I will leave this Group Buy open for about a week to collect names. Once your name is on the list I will contact you for a Delivery Address, and to arrange payment of the kit. All money will need to be recieved before the order is placed. I will keep participants up to date as production progresses.

To date, 6 people have expressed an interest in the kit, so I have used that to work out the prices, which are:

FULL KIT : £180
FRONT ONLY : £95
REAR ONLY : £105

To complete the Big Brake Conversion you will need to source the following:
1 Pair of Toyota Supra Twin Turbo "UK Spec" Front Discs (324mm) - use 1995 for part search - Guide Price: £149.50
1 Pair of Mazda RX8 "Sport" Front Discs (324mm) - use 2005 for part search - Guide Price: £112.65
Note: Some Motor Factors list them as 323mm discs.

Disclaimer:
Any problems with parts and fittings purchased and received will belong to the individuals participating in the Group Buy.
No liability is placed on me, Anthony Onions or the Manufacturing Company, CC Precision Engineering.
This modification has been designed for use on my own car. The kit has not been, and will not be road tested prior to the purchase of the parts, fixtures and fitting so any liability of any kind will be the responsibility of the individual purchaser. Any adjustments required will also be the responsibility of the purchaser.
Details of my MR2 can be found on my website, dated 16/3/09.

My observations for which I am not liable:
A very small clean up of casting marks on the Caliper mounting points may be required.
The Rear Caliper Mounting points require modifying to fit the Adapters.
The Dust Shields may need to be trimmed or manipulated to allow fitting of the Discs.

I will start the participant list in the next post. Please copy and continue this list in your own post.

Thanks,
Ant

Depends really. If this one closes and there is still a lot of interest then I'd get another batch done. Can't promise anything out side of this one though.

yeah they are. The changes to brakes were made on the Rev2 so anything newer than that this kit will apply to. :thumleft:

Do these fit under stock wheels? If not what size wheel will they fit under?

No, it looks like you'll need 17" wheels for them to clear.

Still interested in this but would like to ask a few questions ;

1.what sort of modifications are needed for the rear caliper mounting points.

2. Once the above mod is done (for fitment of the brackets) how easy is it to return to standard set up.

3. I understand the need for 17! alloys but what about the space saver wheel. will that still fit?

Reason for asking is that my car is only used on the road and obviously a puncture with the big brakes could cause a lot of hassle!

Cheers,

JB

Olly, as Slarty mentioned, you will need 17"s. I tried fitting a set of 16s that I have, but it was not fitting for love nor money.

Jason, here is a pic of the modification that you need to do to the rear caliper mounting point.

I used a 115mm grinder and it took no time at all. Could be done with a dremel or a metal file without much trouble.

Returning to the stock set up will be a piece of cake. I plan to return to stock rear brakes when I visit the drag strip with my 16's on the rear. Would be a case of removing the caliper from the bracket, removing the disc, removing the bracket from the hub, fitting stock dics, fitting caliper back to stock mounting point.

The space save, from memory is a 16" wheel, and as such I don't think it would fit. On the flip side to that though, I've not run a spare for most of the time I've had my car. I carry a can of tyre-weld. If its a serious blow out, then it would be a call to the AA.

Feel free to ask any other questions you guys have and I'll do my best to answer them.

Cheers,
Ant
