It's for painting so not just the glass but the whole frame needs removed.

Absolutely bonkers!!

.but I've never had any problem removing the quarter windows.
You'll have 3 screws underneath the vent and then 3 10mm bolts on the inside to remove.
A thin/flexible razor sharp knife used from the inside will then easily cut through the mastic.
You'll then need to pull the frame/window away at the back/vent and slide toward the rear of the car as the top gutter pieces interconnect.
You shouldn't have to pull or put any force on the frame
- if you do you've either left bolts in or haven't broken enough of the bond.
Once you've got the window out you can easily remove the rest of the adhesive from the frame and the car.

I would say go for it and remove it.Breaking a window is a pain though, especially if it's a turbo import as the tint is different
(bronze vs green).
You'll also need to remember that the T-bar windows and the hard-top/sun roof windows are different and you won't get away with running a T-bar window on a hard-top and I should imagine vice versa.
.
.I thought I would and had perpetual leaks as the curvature profile of the frame where it mates to the pillar is not quite the same between them
- that was my experience at least.
