Exhaust manifold needed

Post by Ed »

Anybody know any good fabrication shops that could make up an exhaust manifold with a T3 flange to fit a rev3 or anywhere that sells them off the shelf either here or in the States.

Cheers

Hayward and Scott? IIRC JJ looked into this and it rang a decent sum on the till. I was also toying about getting a jig made up for mine so I could get copies made and sold in the UK but as usual I dont have the time.

Hi James

How's the rebuild going. Where did you get your manifold from then. Lend us your manifold then and I'll get a jig made up from it.:D There's not enough companies that will make them for a rev3 that don't require you to remortgage the house before you can afford it. LOL

Why don't you go for one of these?

Find out more about it here: http://www.fensport.co.uk/partsfiles/sw20tuning.htm

At least you know it'll never crack, and it's proven at over 600bhp. A lot cheaper than all the other options I've seen too.

Is that using the standard manifold. I didn't know fensport were doing that. It looks like they've increased the range of products on offer. I might well have to consider that.

Ignore the last post, I just read the other bit about it being from the corolla wrc.

Hi Ed,

Build is going well thanks!

I don’t think getting the jig made is the expensive part, its just getting a manifold made up itself. I am going to do a welding course this year with the intention of maybe being able to fabricate a few bits up.

Where would you go to get the jig made?

Cheers

Hey ed,

I can get my HKS tubular copied for around £600-£700

Or you can have mine for 1k after I copy it ! :D

I'll have mine on the floor for probably another month or two .. so plenty of time to think.

Specs :

Thick gauge Stainless steel ( yes I was dubious, but the chap says the gauge he uses doesn't crack often !)
Gen III designed
Top Mounting - rid of all that compacting down that side of the block... so you can actually see an oil leak opposed to drips coming off the sump
External dump pipe for 50mm wastegate
T04 Flange fitment.

They can weld in a T3 flange I guess, but I'll have to give them dimensions and stuff and realistically, the size of the pipes to the fange, your better off going for a T04 flange.. unless you've already bought the turbo !

Let me know if your interested chap !

An interesting prospect JJ, although I would have to have the T3 flange because I want to use the Garrett GT35r turbo. Can you ask your contact how much it would be with the T3 flange welded on.

The Fensport modfified corolla wrc manifold looks good and wood come in at about the same price you are talking for a copy of yours and that's with the T3 flange so it would be good to have a couple of choices available.

I like the sound of the turbo being top mounted though. Would that cause any problems mating it up to the ST205 CC.

Hi James

I've found an exhaust specialist in Swindon who build exhausts for race and rally cars as well as providing off the shelf exhausts. I was thinking of asking how muchj they would charge to build a manifold.

I am currently in talks with JP Exhaust in Macclesfield regarding making a new Stainless Steel Manifold for my motor. I have the GT3037s with a T25 flange, but I am sure you can buy fabricated Stainless Flange Adapters to locate alternative Turbos to the Manifold. Just means the Turbo will sit X inches away from it.

I will let you know how I get on, and also regarding Price.

JJ fella

You have seen my Manifold, is your HKS one like it?

:) :D

Top mounted the way forward... if you get bored and have a selection of turbos laying around, you can change them out in an hour !! :D

Mating it up to the ST205 CC... its a bit premature at the moment .... at a first stab, its likely to line up better with the CC.. but the angular inlet nozzle to the CC wil lhave to be chopped off and maybe some work might need to be done on the otherside ???? don't know yet... my engines at home, in the bedroom, in the lock up, in the states at the moment ! :D

Cast iron manifold - reliability and durability but PITA for its location !
Tubular manifold... increased flow out of engine .. 50mm HKS copies external gates cheap and can control boost better than the small of gates.

Then its just downpipe, feed lines / connections to consider.

The T3 flange won't be an issue, it can be fabricated with it on in the first place, but I may have to supply the flange - in stainless steel !.

Have a ponder, the options there, but if you want it, let me know in advance as these people make professional custom exhausts day in and day out for alsorts of cars... and the manifold might get put on a low priority ...I'll have to do a round trip of around 160 miles to get it done too, which I don't mind.... so have a think and see which is the feasible route + £15 on petrol i might add !!

Here is a better Idea. Top mounted Turbo, Boot mounted Charge Cooler and fabricated IC pipes......now that has to be a good idea!

You wont even need a biscuit tin on the boot like mine, just a subtle little lip for air duct.

What dya recon?

Manifolds are tricky to judge... it was top mounted wasn't it !! which is clearly a bonus !

Mine did look similar... but couldn't guarantee it... I'll see if I can get a couple of photos of mine sometime.

Hog,

It isn't everyones cuppa tea though.... people often like to build one lump on the floor, then lift the lot up and simply connect it up !!

What your saying involves sacrificing the boot... as much as I've considered it, I'd rather be a few horses down and still have somewhere to put my shopping ! :)

Can you get a price on getting that done for us please JJ. I'd sooner go with the top mount is possible and if the price is going to be similar to the corolla wrc manifold then I'd sooner go for the tubular manifold approach.

Cheers

Shopping never goes in the boot of his car;

Tool box, ramps, cylinder heads yes - shopping not often hahaha :D
Small turbos - they're not big and they're not clever!

Just say NO to small turbos!

I have ed... he quoted around £600 for it and suggested it to be a lower price if I got a few made up.... but come on... not everyones going down this avenue that we are, so i may have manifolds sat on my coffee table for months before any enquiry... then I can't match any of them on stateside having fab shops in mexico, employing people for $100 a week.

I said 6-700 to cover my ar$e for transport runnign around and delivery to you... sure its not gonna cost £100.... but i'd give you worse case scenario, then anything back is a bonus.

Oh ! This isn't any of my mark up either... anyone else wants one... £1k !!

Ed has a special crankkiller discount of cost only. :)
