Buy or borrow the High Octane 2 DVD - just remember that a badly fitted bodykit looks worse than no kit at all :)

Out of interest where did you source the kit and what moulds are they using?

The problem with these places is that they use photos of the real kit to advertise their own - what I'd really like to see is a pic of *their* kit on a car pre prep work so you can see how close it is to a perfect fit.

You could always do the initial stuff yourself, remove the wings and bumper and try to touch up any bits that need attention, every hour you spend on it yourself is an hour less you'll get billed (unless you screw up and cause them 2 hours of extra work of course :))

Best bet is to chat to the bodyshop and see what they suggest, most are all too aware of the need to save money and may even offer you advice on how to do so :)

I hope the one you get fits better than the one I got from the States :( The finish was crap and and the panels fitted so badly you'd have thought they were designed to fit a different make of car  Luckily that's exactly what I expected but it's taken me more than 180 hours labour to get the fit and finish good enough to be able to produce moulds from them-mine will fit :D

NO. Normal body filler won't last in big gaps, it will eventually fall out or crack around the edges. Its a filler for defects not gaps.

You need to use Fibral. Its a fibre glass based filler used for filling out big gaps. You MUST ensure that the area for the filler is also down to bare metal to get a good bond. You will also need to use fibre glass on the rear arches as they rivet on and then need a fair bit of smoothing. Its really hard getting things even on each side...........remember mark twice cut once, same rule applies, once its on its on!!!!

Once it looks about right smooth it back roughly then finish with body filler, and finally use knifing putty for tiny gaps if the standard filler is too rough. To be honest your best bet is to do it roughly and let the bodyshop finish it. At the end of the day they will not be happy to spray something unless its perfect.

Remember filler shrinks! let it cure properly before putting on the next coat/layer.

Also ask about warranty's they might not give any warranty on the paint if you do the foundation work.

Get on the blower and good luck, I'll be hot on your heels in a couple of months with my own trd!

Has anyone bought one of these.

I think the best places in the states comprise of Carisma and a nother which I cant't remember Autotint design? I'll look it up.

I bet even a proper TRD is a bastid to fit!

The wide wheels is a worry of mine! You should be able to just get a different offset on 9J's (cringe). Im going for 10J's (ouch  ) and 275's (even oucher   ) if they fit (crunchy noises :x ) maybe 265's (slight relief :? )

Any kit is a pain, good job my bro did his final year at uni specialising in fibre glass (pheww......is it finished yet? )

Hi Derry

I think I bought the TRD wing off you last year. How is the process with the TRD kit going and do you have a rough idea of when the molds will be complete. It would be great to see some photos of the finished article.

Hi Ed

Yes it's me mate! You'll remember what the panels looked like at the time ? The fitment matched the appearance ! I've had to cut pieces off and add pieces on blah blah blah -enough !! The moulds are about 4 to 5 days from completion and then I will produce a set of panels to fit to my Wife's 2 - it's a more attractive colour :) I'm hoping to post some pics of car with panels fitted pre-prep and follow-ups painted and fully finished 8) Thanks for your interest Ed- how are your tuning plans progressing ?

Cheers

Out of interest are you doing the kit as a skin to sit over the existing front end or as complete replacement panels as the real one was?

Hi Ian

The tuning plans are progressing along. Just need to pick up the turbo, rods and pistons. Then I can crack the block open and start.
I look forward to seeing the pics when you have finished your wife's car.

Cheers Ed
