Finished IMOC footage from Elvington

Post by BenF »

Folks,

OK, its done. The clip is about 3 minutes 40s and includes footage from the paddock of cars there, and cars/entering leaving the circuit (Ta Dale), in/on car footage from my setup on the Roadster, and still photos from cars on the track and in the paddock.

Thanks to Michael Canny and Mark Nias for allowing me to use their photos.

When creating the files, feedback was that most people were on broadband and weren't too worried about filesize so I've produced two very high quality versions which are 38MB in size - one with music, one without, and one at VHS quality which is half that size.

High resolution clips with music:

http://www.imoc.co.uk/users/BenF/Elving ... _music.wmv

High Resolution clip without music (its the same size)

http://www.imoc.co.uk/users/BenF/Elving ... _music.wmv

VHS quality clip For those on dialup or slower connections -14MB:

http://www.imoc.co.uk/users/BenF/Elving ... _music.wmv

NB - If you have a dialup connection, it will take ~90 minutes to download the VHS quality link.

If you don't have a fast net connection, I can burn these to a CD and put it in the post to you in the UK if you buy a IMOC Sticker Pack at the same time :D - see the General section for more info.

Ta! You've got a nice fast link for that then :)

Yours was a very nice 'clean' Mk1 hence the early feature in the video. I tried to get a balance of Mk1 / Mk2 / Mk3s in the footage - there were fairly even numbers of each type on the track.

When I 'tested' downloading it from home (2Meg Cable) it was coming in at 50k a second - took a few minutes to arrive.

You just need more practice ;)

It is possible to powerslide the Mk2 around, and having a mk2 with a Limited slip diff makes it even easier - some Mk2 Turbos would have had one fitted as a factory option.

If you don't have a LSD you can get the back end out (eg Lauren's Red Mk1 in the pics ) but you have to provoke it by lifting off and turning in sharply, early.

My 2003 Roadster on 2001 alloys (tyres are narrower on the rear) is great fun and very nicely balanced - you can make it oversteer by using power mid-bend (or spin if you lift off!) or you can provoke it like I do part way through that clip - early, sharp turn in with a lift and then back on the power - but I made a dogs dinner of recovering it :clown: and I carred a little too much speed into the next corners - or it was the rear tyres massively overheated losing grip.

Huge fun though :D But the tyres were down to the cord by the end of the day - there was ~ 3mm of tread there at the beginning of the day, but I didn't mind as I had another set of part-worn tyres to go on 8)

I've got loads of footage - the stuff that went onto that clip was just a few random extracts of stuff that looked interesting/good. I'll be putting up more clips (eg one lap, goonage, clips of other cars from the camera) next weekend.

Just watched it again, and spotted that it's me accelerating away from the pits in front of you - I didn't realise how much smoke my car chucks out under boost, but at least its black ( ie. overfuelling ) rather than blue ( oil ).

Once again, excellent video =D>

I think it might be our SC - it does that at the moment.

Top Vid btw, will have to get a camera sorted out at some point!

Yup - from the wonky 'stinger' aerial, to the exhaust cowling falling off underneath, i'm pretty sure that is mine and Speedy's sooty SC...
