MR2 vs. Subaru Legacy GT (A story from Japan)

Post by Vaeth »

One night in Osaka, Japan, a Rev. III SW20 GT-S (245whp) joins onto Route 423 behind a Subaru Legacy GT (260bhp, 4wd). The Legacy is in a contagious spirited mood, soaring through the light traffic of the 423 like wind through a canyon. The GT-S contracts the mood and follows in the Legacy's wake.

Nearing the join-ramp from Route 423 onto Route 2, the Legacy notices that the pair of pop up headlines from 5 minutes ago is still following at a decent gap behind him. "What car is that?" he must be thinking. The join-ramp from 423 to 2 sweeps 270 degree in a tight arc which tightens about 3/4 way through it. The Legacy enters the start of the join-ramp at a decent clip of 85km/h with the GT-S matching speed a safe distance of 3 car lengths behind. Both the Legacy and GT-S switch to the outer lane, and pass cars on the inner lane as if they were standing still. The GT-S feels confident and rock solid, and decides that warm up time is over...time to stretch its legs.

The seductive whine of the intake fills the car's cabin. 95km/h. The feel of the lateral forces is addictive and thrilling. The Legacy looms closer from ahead, now just over a car's length in front. The kink in the curve is approaching, and the Legacy maintiains a speed of 85km/h, the GT-S slows to match speed, and bumper to bumper the two cars sweep through the tight kink. The GT-S is the first to apply fresh throttle, and taking the inside lane just after the apex of the kink pulls up nose to nose with the Legacy.

The inner and outer lane merge into one, and the GT-S lets off the throttle allowing the Legacy to merge. It's over, Japanese touge-style. GT-S 1 vs Legacy 0.
