I've seen mr2's turbo'ed, super charged
has anyone else put an mr2 3sgte into an mx5... is it possible (easily)... is it a stupid idea due to something i'm ignorant to?

I presume you meant MX5.... there are issues mounting a 3s-gte inline, it requires an Altezza gearbox, which i happen to have sitting in my workshop, i did think about a 3s-gte in the Mx5 but like the hundred other swap ideas i have there are only so many hours in the day......
But yep it's possible.

it's entirely possible but the MX5 engine takes so well to turbocharging (it was originally turbocharged in the 323 GTR) that you can make 250-260bhp with bolt on conversion parts and a MSPNP ecu. after that a rebuild with forged internals and a big turbo and you will make more power than you'll ever need in an MX5
the mx5 gearbox is an absolute gem, one of the best parts of the car, so throwing that away too would be a shame.
if you did want to go for a bigger non original engine conversion then there are mount kits and so on for dropping in a SR20, which is lighter (all ali), stronger and better than a 3SGTE, comes with it's own rwd gearbox hanging off the back of it and has been tried and tested before.

Yeah that would b good. I have an mx and have been thinking is250 2.5v6. Don't think it's been done, could use the IS box too. Not silly power but more torque and a nice noise.

Yeah making such a bold statement and not backing it up? Is it a MAP vs MAF thing? At least one builder has told me he hates SR20s and much prefers CA18s.
The SR20 seems to do everything really well, is light, comes with a choice of great gearboxes for FR and transverse application, and apparently a much wider selection in terms of aftermarket bolt-ons. It also doesn't rely on running stupid rich to make big power - but then you could spend big big money on SYVECS and active knock to make your venerable old 3S compete with the big boys, but then there's the uncertainty and conflicting hearsay about blocks cracking and which ones will and which ones won't. There is hardware and knowledge to mount them into so many different chassis. They'll do a sustained 400hp on stock bottom end with water injection (don't get me started on you "bandaid for a bad tune" people) and most importantly tuning and building them isn't treated like some kind of dark art by armchair builders on forums and certain specialists. There generally seems less damage control and precautionary measures to be spent on before asking for more.
Aside from the initial cost based on their popularity, I would definitely prefer to approach a project with an SR20DET now, of any generation, than a 3S-GTE. The 3S is an awesome engine I'm sure, but it needs 800cc injectors to make 400hp? An SR20DET will give you that output from 600cc injectors (without opening up a discussion about fuel pressure). Of course the Subaru people will tell you they can get that with 550cc injectors but that also gives weight to the argument that the 3SGTE (at least up to the 3rd gen) might be a bit of a dinosaur.
I've never heard anyone explain why they don't rate the SR20 or why they prefer other engines - there's nothing wrong with that, but it seems odd to me.

I'll be honest, I just have a lot of love for Toyota. And the fact the SR20 seems to swapped into everything makes me want to pioneer with the 3SGTE as it's always been overlooked. That's as far as it goes for me though
If a 1JZ could be made to fit in an MR2 then I'd be pursuing that for sure
I'm sure Driftlimits will probably have a much deeper reasoning than myself though

Also if you're dead set on putting a 3S-GTE in, look up KE Conversions in Australia. He produces mounts and other junk to do this swap in various cars, having started with E7x Corollas. Last I saw he was in the process of developing things for various different cars.

I know I know it's old news now Yoshikuni-san builds silly good cars.
