As above, has anyone on here had any run in's with the new Focus RS?
301BHP i believe, however will be on the heavy side. And the power goes to the wrong wheels...
Anyone any stories to tell?...

Yep I had a little play with one a few weeks ago. Couldnt keep the pace with me. But in all fairness I had 200hp over what he had and 3 more cylinders (not a MR2)
Was holding its own though

I drive a Focus ST reguarly....
and they are so stable on the road.. would love to try the RS as would love to know what its like with another 100 horse power as the st is already a quick car..

Re: Ford Focus RS Mk2
Yes I have seen one in my rear view mirror off the lights, and im only running about 285bhp....
Re: Ford Focus RS Mk2
Yeah i used to own a 57 reg ST. Was a very capable car, but just idnt excite me the way the MR2 does. Obviously
RS with another 80bhp odds i sure is a weapon, but shouldnt touch a decent tubby.
Over the quarter is would be no contest i imagine.

Re: Ford Focus RS Mk2
Evo magazine dyno'd one and it only produced 280ish bhp. At 1500kg and fwd, I think a stock rev3 tubby shouldn't have any issues.
But seeing as you can get various states of tune for as little as £1000, I wonder how many are standard.

I'm running 281 bhp and pulled on one from 3rd gear (we were stuck behind someone going slow so had to wait until they pulled aside)
Nice cars i like em.

Re: Ford Focus RS Mk2
To be fair they look like a new focus with a bodykit from halfords... well not far off anyway!
Re: Ford Focus RS Mk2
They look the part imo but why the front wheel drive
a guy I know was after one but seems to think that alot of examples have been down on power quoted when put on a dyno (As evo showed)
should be ok against other hot hatches but not against an mr2 turbo

I hear the chassis is rather good though, so could be a match for a turbo on that score.
Nowt wrong with FWD. A good chassis, is a good chassis.

I think thats the point of most Ford Rs`s. I have always liked the Rs series of cars because they look pretty cool!

Re: Ford Focus RS Mk2
to be honest i would rather have the Rs or even the ST nowdays than a mr2 Turbo..
just the chassis is great covers ground so well, but it is a much newer design than the mr..
completely different cars...
the mr is faster but the focus is more usable more of the time in real life...

Re: Ford Focus RS Mk2
I wouldn't even say the MR2 is faster. Maybe in a 0-60 dash due to the weight placement, but on a country road dash I'd hazard a guess that the Toyota wouldn't see which way the Ford went. Chassis development has moved on a fair bit since the mk2 was built, as has suspension.

Yes far too much grip these days. I'd much rather have an LSD out back and more power than grip.

Re: Ford Focus RS Mk2
Sorry but this
Looks xxxx HOT!
In the flesh, and I've seen loads coming Essex (lol yada yada)
Not to mention, completely standard, they make a noise an MR2 could only ever dream about, even with a V6 conversion and MR2 wouldnt make that sort of noise, it's amazing. When I had the Astra one powered past me on the way home from Nottingham, must have been doing in excess of 100mph and the noise was biblical.
Straight fives just sound superb. Better than a 2, better than my straight 6 beemer too.
And as others have eluded to, it may not have the edge in a drag race, but it would destroy a 2 over a typical English country route.
