My REV 1 Turbo vs REV 3 Turbo

Post by Cliff »

Kept up with him all the way to the next set of traffic lights where we had to stop as they were red :D.

I quickly had the chance to ask him what he had done to his and he simply said filter and exhaust. :D

I have a filter and exhaust too, :D but also running 0.9 Bar of boost!!

Now the question -- With his modifications, what BHP do you think he is running?

Mine had the same mods when it came in from Japan - was only running 244bhp (flywheel) prior to Unichip :( . So can make very little difference if the parts aren't well-matched and especially without any tweaking of the management to get it all working together.

On a slight tangent there, I really would recommend some form of EMS either standalone (Motech etc) or piggyback (Unichip) - sure you can get the power up with a bleed valve or whatever, but the improvement in response (and economy) with a properly mapped engine is really sensational if done properly. I also feel it enhances reliability if you're sticking with otherwise mainly stock internals.

Just my 2p...

when mine was a stock rev3, It'd slaughter a stock rev 2 time and time again. Near the end of every gear I pulled significantly.

They're all different though.

Yeah thats cause the rev 2 had a crap turbo to start with compared to a ct20b. Put a ct20b on the rev 2 and the levels become a lot more even :D
Small turbos - they're not big and they're not clever!

Just say NO to small turbos!

My own Rev3 when it only had....standard boost, exhaust, decat, filter, made 269bhp on one dyno and 267bhp on another! Best 1/4 at the time was 13.3 :D

 So this REV 3 that I came up against could have been running 267-269BHP and as I matched it I can claim I'm running the same?????

What do you guys think??

In a word....No :(

The only way to make claim in my book for the power of any given car is to have it dynod. My own car was and still is in tip top health. The guy you had the run in with may not have changed his ignition components for the last 5+ years! :? Their are just too many things that may well have been amiss.

I'm in similar shoes to Mike (although smaller lol)

My rev3 was dynoed stock with a fujitsubo exhaust and it came out 266 at the fly.

So, in theory, 18psi, better zorst, air filter, decat, it should read nigh on 300 on the same dyno :D

13.4 best stock. 12.9 now with minimal mods 8)

rev3's \:D/
