its about £100 for the drive and 5 films so not bad value at all.

does make it more expensive than a PS3 (only jus after you buy a decent HD cable mind) but ive never said the PS3 was overpriced and if you really wanna be picky then it is actually about the same cos of the bigger HDD.

HDMI cables are not expensive though. Got mine free with the TV. Think they are about £12.

think your right tho, if you want a full blown media center with gaming and HD disc capability then the PS3 is now working out cheaper.

PS3 is £300 on the net now plus say £30 for a 120gb HDD and £12 for the cable thats £342

and the elite plus HD-DVD is £400. i guess the 5 free films is the only bonus there. dont know how long that offers for tho.

The Elite also has a 120gb hard drive which costs £120 on it's own.
I'd say a fairer price comparison would be the Xbox Pro vs the PS3 40gb.

When the PS3 came out in 60gb form with the Blu-ray player built in it cost the same (within a couple of quid) as an Xbox PLUS an HD-DVD drive.

The thing that annoyed me is that ALOT of people dont have HD TV's. Infact I'd go as far as to say more dont than do currently.
So why did PS not give buyers the chance to spend less and opt to not have it?
If they'd have offered one without blu-ray DVD for say £110 less then I think they would have sold a xxxx load more.

they chose the blue ray for the disk capacity also not just the hd side.
blue ray can hold 27gig as apposed to the dual layer 8gig dfisks that the 360 uses. hence the reason games made for the ps3 wouldnt be able to run on the 360 take metal gear 4 for example

i dont get this argument. surely if games like mass effect and oblivion can fit on a disc then surely MGS should be able to?

epic had the same trouble with unreal didnt they? or alteast they said there gonna when they get round to working on it.

Yeah but the Xbox plays HD game but not HD movies, you have the add on for the movies. The PS3 has it all there whether you want/need it or not.

usually in games or pc apps, its the graphics that take up alot of space. on games like gears of war the textures look nice from a distance until u get up close and u can see all the compression in the image, huge compression can cause bad frame rates also
