[Mk2] [NA] UK rev 3 exhaust

My exhaust tone changed very suddenly when pulling away normally. I don't tend to drive the car hard at all. My MOT centre did rev the car very hard recently to help clean out the engine. So the bass tone is now much louder. It basically sounds like the car is just much louder. I can't hear any blowing. Is this a hole in the manifold, exhaust? Is it the muffling material in the exhaust failing?

Anyone had this before? To the best of my knowledge it is the original exhaust.

I changed mine a few years ago when I kept failing emmisions. I currently have a mongoose which sounds pretty good.
