Just wondering what your thoughts are and has anyone ever done this mod, Im in the middle of doing this to mine the central locking module in my car has this feature so going to hook it up to an actuator.

I'm fitting it as my boot lock is no more it's been covered up by a rev2 panel so can only open boot from the inside, I think electric boot realise would be pretty nifty, also fitting gas struts so the boot will lift by its self.

I did this mod on mine. its definatly worth doing and quite easy if you already have a remote unlocking system installed.

The solenoid i used was a bit big but it has been working great for the past few years.

Yay! Finished it tonight, waiting what seem like forever to get the brackets for the gas strut, but video below, works pretty well and really happy it works the way I invisoned it would, I use my boot a lot and nothing more irritating than putting down your stuff after shopping etc and using the old boot lock that never really worked that great or climbing round to the driver's door to unlock boot.

I can still use the cable boot release too which is wise just encase the actuator or solenoid were to fail, I can't use the old boot key lock now as I have a rev 2 panel covering it.

200nm force and 450mm in length fully extended this will lift the boot to Max opening, the boot is still easy to shut too, 200nm is really the lowest I could go down to for it to open on its own and not apply much stress to the boot frame, the Original spring thats there has to be kept in place too as this is not only good to tack onto but what gives it the initial kick so the gas strut can take over and lift it, a bit like putting springs on the struts.

Yea those actuators are big couldn't believe the size when it turned up I put mine up inside the lock housing so it couldn't be seen along with the relay as I didn't want anything poking through the carpet I put another rod to the lock it self, there is a second hole in the factory lock where the spring is to put the rod into, I found putting it there the boot lock spring was able to put the actuator back to the home position after unlock

Hmmm I have a carbon fiber boot lid. I'm wondering if the original spring would put a lot of stress on the lid. That's why I like the idea of the gas springs opening the boot lid. [Think]

Not as fancy as what you're proposing, but i've had a remote boot release built into my Toad alarm for over 10 years, works a treat through a solenoid.

Interested in seeing how yours turns out
