[Mk2] [Turbo] Turbo suspension tower strengthening plates

Something that has puzzled me for a while ..........

Were the strengthening plates fitted inside the engine bay to the top of the suspension towers originally finished in black paint, similar to the x-brace, in the body colour or simply in a grey zinc type finish?

I have seen all 3 types on different Turbos but do not know if any are original.

Also, can someone let me know if the engine bay x-brace was originally fitted above or below the strengthening plates ?

x-brace goes above the plates. It has to as the stock brace only bolts to one stud each side on the suspension towers.
