So managed to do some work on the car the other day:

got the brake calipers and pads all fitted using all new sliders/boots etc. Youll have to excuse the rust on the disks, they are actually brand new, i just left them outside for a few weeks... luckily it rubs off by hand.
Image

In other news, a friends selling me an aftermarket ECU (MegaSquirt) really cheap, so couldnt say no. oh and a wideband to go with it.

Image

Ive got quite a bit of experience with these as my old mx5 had one which i built from scratch. This is being removed from a mk1 4age car which as of this weekend is being converted to a camry v6.

a friends coming over sunday afternoon to help me bleed the brakes and a few other bits before i put her down on the ground and try driving it up the road and back. :thumleft:

well... after being kindly given the brake bits i finally got my car on the ground (not without its issues):

1. rear caliper slider bolt snapped in the caliper, had to weld a nut to it to get it out which was fun.

2. car seats were damp which added to the driving experience lol.

3. engines still running like crap, my friend thinks weve timed it up incorrectly, im going to get under it tonight to check for the mark on the crank pulley. (we think we have tipexed the wrong place on the pulley, i think theres supposed to be a notch on it)

Managed to get a video of us moving it on the drive:

Well I only got 5 minute's on the car tonight

Got a new Jack.£40 new from halfords isn't bad.
Image

Also believe I've found my rough running issue.

We've been timing the car to the white mark on the pulley shown below
Image

As you can see there's a notch about an inch lower down on the pulley wheel.... I think it's been marked incorrectly. Or we've just timed it up to the white mark by mistake.

I sanded the pulley which showed the notch even more.
Image

I then put some yellow paint on the correct mark on the pulley
Image

Was too late to start the car. So I'll next get chance wednesday evening after work. Annoying I'm possibly close to getting the car running as it should have been all along.

well got the timing light out last night...

the cars timing was indeed timed to that white mark (the wrong one)

i re-timed to the correct mark on the pulley, hoping the cam timing wasn't out etc.

Well...the results speak for themselves.

Im properly happy about the car running correctly now.

left on the list then its MOT time baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! \:D/ \:D/

1. insert split pins through rear axles
2. fit brake line clips/holders
3. fix dash lights
4. replace wiper stalk
5. tighten up exhaust/fit middle bracket.
6. tyres

the list has grown a few items, but most of the items are quick 10 minute jobs.

excited to finally be close to mot after missing my personal august deadline. It's just in time for me to drive to work over winter instead of riding my motorbike in the snow like the previous 5 years or so.

Well ive been busy recently so not had a lot of time to work on the car.

managed an hour last night so i got the center exhaust bracket installed on the sub frame. However upon going under the car i noticed oil on my exhaust, a further look showed the oil pan gaskets dripping oil. So ive now added to the list as well as marking one of the items off.

1. insert split pins through rear axles - DONE
2. fit brake line clips/holders - DONE
3. fix dash lights
4. replace wiper stalk
5. tighten up exhaust/fit middle bracket - DONE
6. tyres
7. replace oil pan gasket

Got the midpipe off the car so I can get to work re sealing the sump and sort my leaking thermostat housing.

Image

Got the oil out. And I've cracked all the sump nuts. Trying to figure out if the flywheel cover needs to come off.

Image

As you can see. The droplet of coolant on the thermostat housing is obvious. Hopefully when I remove and re seal it. It fixes it.

Got the sump off and cleaned/re siliconed. Just waiting for it to go off before putting the oil back in.

Image

Looks to be leaking from. Thermostat housing and the water pipe appear to both be leaking. So I'll tackle that this week.

Well got the sump back on and sealed. havnt yet tested it holds oil. so fingers crossed.

removed and re-sealed the thermostat housing and pipe Saturday.
Image

Polished my intake pipe, not sure im a fan of the gold tape now its on. looks a bit rough. need to vac my engine bay too.
Image
Image

ordered tyres too, so once the tyres are fitted ive got the following:

1. Weld a captive nut on my mid pipe (Wednesday at a mates house)
2. Fill up with oil
3. Top up coolant (lost around a liter replacing the thermostat housing seal)
4. Refit battery and get her up to temp check for leaks
5. MOT :thumleft:

So i'll finally get a chance to drive the car and my first ever mr2 drive. \:D/

No real updates apart from spent some time the weekend fault finding a hesitation issue which now seems to be resolved after replacing a dead/dying HT lead/re gapping plugs.

Gave her a wash and a wax. Ready for mot. Which will likely be the 14th/15th.

Cheers guys. I think it needs a 20/30mm drop though. Close those arch gaps.

Well she was fine for a week or 2.... However I've had a missfire as it entered boost (seperate thread). Nathan at mrtwos looked over it and found one of my cams was out a tooth which wasn't helping. Turns out it appears to be a faulty ECU. I tried repairing the caps on my ECU and it didn't fix the issue. I then bought a 2nd ECU same issue. Opened it up. Worse leaking Caps than mine had.

So I've given up on stock ecus and have nearly finished building this:
Image

Just got to add a spark output on the proto board (as using stock igniter to drive coil) and then wire up a zeal add in board to control tvis and fans. Then my boost controller add on.

Get paid Friday so I'm ordering the following:

1. AEM wideband
2. Mac boost solenoid
3. Clutch switch
4. Physical switches to enable/disable anti lag/launch control
5. Cone filter as I won't be using the messy MAF setup once this is installed

Excited to get her back on road. Aiming for mr2 national day as it's relatively local to me. So pop over and say hello if you see my car. :thumleft:

It's been quiet as I've been building megasquirt and getting it all built an wired in.

Here she is. All built. I desoldered the original Toyota connector block off one of my dead stock ecus. Cut the legs down and soldered the megasquirt loom direct to it.
Image

Looks a mess but it's functional.
Image

This is the end of the loom that goes into megasquirt
Image

Had some fun and games finding tooth 1 angle for the cas input
Image

Here she is. All up and running.

I've got a few more thing to sort. But the hard part of getting it started is complete.

1. Need to wire in fuel pump differently. Part of my issues starting the car was the fact the fuel pump cuts power after I let go of the ignition key. Part of me removing the MAF setup (part of the maf is part of the fuel pump circuit)

2. Solder my lambda sensor wiring property.

3. Drill/tap for my IAT sensor in my intercooler pipework.

4. Take out onto the road and do road tuning.

Oh and re assembly my interior
