Time to say Hi and share some pics :)

Post by Jonmurgie »

Hi everyone, thought that now we've got another MR2 I'd introduce myself properly as I'm a proper Forum Whore (Jonmurgie registered on most car forums!) \:D/

So, I'm Jon and this weekend me and the wife (Nina) picked up another MR2 Turbo for her. This will now be the 3rd MR2 Turbo we've had over the years, with my first one bought from Ireland as a direct personal imports back in 1998:

Excuse the pics, this was before Digital Cameras came to the masses!!

This was a 1990 'G' Rev1 GT T-Bar in gleaming black with tinted windows (my G/F said it looked like the BAT Mobile!!) and I put together my very first ever website on this car (bless): http://www.geocities.com/jonmurgie/mr2.html

Sold that one after a year or so onto a Hairdresser (no word of a lie!) and personally went into other Jap Turbo Nutter Cars and the like: http://www.mdracing.co.uk/oldcars.asp

My then G/F (now wife) LOVED the MR2 so around 3 years later we hunted around again and bought:

This was a 1992 'J' Rev2 GTS Tintop in Steel Mist Grey and genuinely mint! My wife loved it to death, although on far too many occasions she wasn't noticed on the road (usually roundabouts) and had to take evasive actions  we put this totally down to the 'road' colour of the car so sold the car after around 6 months! What I didn't realise, is that my wife never wanted to let the car go... oops!!

So this brings us onto the 3rd MR2 Tubby... We'd only decided 3 weeks ago today that we'd get another MR2 as we were selling our Mk4 Golf GTi to release some cash. This time though, the wife had a STRICT list of musts: Zircon Blue, TinTop, Leather/Suede seats... eek!

Anyhow, there happened to be a few of these for sale (though a most were GTS cloth, but that's the easiest of the things to sort!). After a few long trips to view cars we settled on one from a nice chap near Sheffield and picked the car up yesterday :D

This current MR2 is a 1993 'K' Rev2 GT in Zircon Blue, pretty much standard save for a Mongoose Exhaust, horrible 17" alloys (badly kerbed and wrong tyre size on the rear) and a NASTY gear knob & steering wheel (new items already ordered!). My wife is OVER the moon with the car though, this being her 'dream' MR2 (it's the colour you see!).

Think that's all for now... hope you've enjoyed my little MR2 story past & present :D

Cheers
Jon

Sorted a bit of the interior out last night by fitting:

Leather Gaitor (cheers Rhon!)
TRD Gearknob
OMP Supertourismo Wheel

Will sort out a 'before' shot as it had nasty blue gearknob and steering wheel!!
