[Mk2] [Generic] Bonnet and engine bay hydraulic struts

Post by BLZ-8027 »

Following on from another thread in the wanted section ,

I went over to the company in question ,and came away with these rams ,

As you can see the body is thinner than the normally available struts ,so they should sit better in the bonnet bay, to solve the issue people have had in the past with the bonnet being raised slightly

I also bought a shorter one for the engine bay ,just need some brackets now ,possibly from E-Bay (unless anyone knows somewhere else that sells them?)

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Seat-belt-bra ... 336addc8ab

and as you can see they work out cheaper as well

I previously filled in a request on their website and the company emailed me back with these prices ,
I wasn't sure on the pressure required ,so priced up adjustable strength rams (and asked about bulk discount)

£18.80 each
6+ £17.86
20+ £15.04
50+ £13.16

After chatting with the staff there today.i bought fixed strength rams @ £17.49 + vat

so if enough of you buy them together they can be even cheaper ?

Quality seems good ,and ill be fitting them at the weekend,so ill post up again

Could a proper group buy get started for these Trevor? I would be interested and it looks like that other group buy has died a death.

I'm keen for these aswell, its a job I keep putting off because my engine lid either stays closed for long periods of time or open for long periods of time!

I saw them on ebay but you had to get them from Canada I think so something I could buy in the UK would get my vote.

I fitted the bonnet rams this morning ,and all seems good ,i cant see any increase in bonnet height after fitment ? .
i fitted them with the ram pointing down ,and then changed them over to the other way round ,in my opinion they are better this way round

on the old type of ram people had to file flat the ball fittings ,due to them catching ,ill give it a while and have another look at them ,to see if this needs doing to these ,cant tell at present everything is wet

Hard to get a picture from the exact same angle ,but they are good enough for me

Before fitment

After fitment (you can just see the shiny ends)

Now to try and fit the rear one

I'm not in a position to lay out the money for a group buy ,i dont have a credit card any-more to offset the cost until people pay,

But i can collect them and distribute out to people, if someone wants to set one up ,

If someone does set one up ,ill provide the details as to what is needed to be bought from the website

Dont bother buying these ,they are not worth it
mine have started to go rusty in places ,and as per the others, ive had to grind down the edges ,because they have rubbed on the wings

I'd be interested in both the engine bay and the front bonnet ones, sorry I couldn't get the group buy sorted. New to that and didn't know how to sort out the amount of cash that had to be put down etc...
