I wouldnt even say they were "affordable" now let alone then.

£4k upwards for an old FWD escort is silly money that most wouldnt pay.

Put it this way, most people between 17-22 arent going to want to pay that. 22-25 might then 25+ will want to get something newer for their money generally.

I'd be more inclined to buy a shed as a project and fix it up.

up until about 5 years ago you could pick these cars up for next to nowt ! now they have become rare (due to massive 130 bhp) and there are'nt many left i guess thats why they have gone up in value .

Why is it only Escorts that have the 'bricks' under the bonnet to keep it open. Makes me laugh every time.

Mad to think a nice Escort RS Turbo, series 1 or 2 will fetch more money than a tubby.

Not really a Series 1 is a much rarer car than than a tubby and to some extent it has 'heritage' to a point I guess which the tubby doesn't. I expect this kind of car to be more geared towards the enthusiast too. Probably in the 30+ age group.

That escort mk1 is nice but is completely ruined by such stupidly oversized wheels. Should be 13". :+:

Meh.

It's not slagging off a MK2 unless you are terribly insecure.

A Triumph Snag can never be a nice car. Have you ever been in one? I did and it was just truly awful. Horrible things. :-:

Like the Manta GTE though. :+:

I only sat in the Stag (I was 11),I just love the shape, though I hear the engines cook easily? The manta was white, with white wheels, lovely car.

I went in a V8 stag (a neighbour owned one). It was the triumph engined one not the rover engine. No go at all. It sounded okay, but i've been in a lot better sounding cars. There just didn't seem to be anything redeeming about it. I was almost embarrassed at just how underwhelmed I was!
