As already mentioned, Itll be in a straight line I would imagine, so unless its wet, tyres and driver skill wont really come into it.

However I have drag tyres and I do a little test driving for a tv show in my white overalls...........

Tyres will make heaps of difference even if it's bone dry. I had some ditch finders on my old 2 and could fish tale through the first 3 gears if I nailed it.

are you saying an mr2 is better on the twistys than a scooby? i'd be amazed if that was the case. scooby would have a massive advantage through the corners.

Listen, I didnt say there arent power losses. I just said all this talk about AWD power losses being a bad thing is rubbish.

That's what it sounded like though...

But add it up, the Imprezza in question has enough additional power to compensate for it.
Too many people are too quick to shout "4wd power losses" without even seeing a race take place. I say try it and see for yourself what happens.

If the cars are running said power, ATW there's probably less than 20bhp difference and even that could be made up by dodgy dyno results/fudging of the truth. This is based on 12% drivetrain losses on mr2 and 24% on scooby doo and these figures are entirely plausible.

For arguments sake lets say each mechanical device is only 94% efficient. Mr2 g'box 6% diff 6%, total 12% losses, scooby g'box 6% diffs 18%. total 24%.

Also to consider are the more effective aero abilities of the mr2 that's the lower cd and smaller frontal area of the mr2 over the scoob, at higher speeds that will create a very noticeable performance advantage. Also the probable weight advantage (generally speaking most scoobs are heavier than most mr2's), then the mr2 has every chance of matching the scoob's performance.

And any extra power losses are bad, whether or not 4wd is worth it depends on the situation.

I think he means Racelogic.

And I said "come with launch control", not "how many people fit aftermarket launch control". ;)

Its certainly not something I've seen fitted to an idiot proof WRX, its more something you'd see fitted to hairy chested manly RWD cars. :thumleft:

I've seen several 4WD cars fitted with aftermarket launch control and the effects can be stunning for 0-60 times.

Hence why i said it

Fair enough, its something I've only seen commonly on track and drag cars, I guess because its heavy on the clutch and drivetrain.

Either way, an MR2 can shoot out of the blocks pretty quickly when launched right.

Yup i agree, easier with 4WD though... All that grip and all.

I knew a guy who ran a 450bhp Escort Cosworth and that was devastating off the lights

I had an idiot get very close to hitting my car when he was in his scooby.
I was in front and was driving with reasonable spirit but he took it all aboard and started getting right up behind me so I stopped straight away and let him pass.
He must of had a fairly tuned one as there were for people in it and my car is no slouch running approx 270 ponies and he caught me up on the bend in a flash.

Then again I've lost my bottle over the years and respect my MR2 when it comes to corners....and I want to keep it.

I think with what has been said above then it'll be a close run and probably down to driver skill. :)

Ok

Had a bit of a practice run tonight with a newer shape sti. Off a roundabout me behind, short story is it was pretty easy to keep up. Had to keep backing off. No idea of power, model etc. but it looked like this:
