Rear lights blowing fuse...

Post by SwitchBlade »

Right this is really annoying me, I keep blowing the fuse for the rear lights. Brakes, reverse and indicators all work fine, the problem is the rear sidelights and foglights. As soon as I turn the lights on the fuse blows with and without the clusters connected.

I've stuck a multimeter on each side of the connector and the readings I'm getting for resistance are as follows with my cobbled together pinout guide:
Image
Drivers side
1 : red cable, green stripe, silver dash : 15ohms
2 : green cable, no stripe, twin silver dashes : 0 ohms
3 : green cable, yellow stripe, twin silver dashes : 1 ohm
4 : white cable, black stripe, twin silver dashes : 0 ohm
5 : red cable, black stripe, silver dash : infinate resistance
6 : green cable, white stripe, twin silver dashes : infinate resistance

Passengers side
1 : red cable, green stripe, silver dash : 15ohms
2 : green cable, no stripe, twin silver dashes : 0 ohms
3 : green cable, black stripe, silver dash : 1 ohm
4 : white cable, black stripe, twin silver dashes : 0 ohm
5 : red cable, black stripe, silver dash : infinate resistance
6 : green cable, white stripe, twin silver dashes : infinate resistance

Now I'm hoping someone can give me an idea of which cable is meant to be which and what the resistances could be. Also an idea of how the cable runs down the car and where it may have shorted...

Thanks for any help.

Mines doing the same, Switch. See link below.

Front sidelights, taillights, and my dash lights. Blows the 15AMP fuse everytime I flick the switch. Disconnected my light clusters as well, front and back but with no avail.

If you get anywhere with it drop me a line because I'm stuck to driving in daylight only. ](*,)
