Aerocatch Install installation of Aerocatch bonnet catches to a Border Carbon bonnet |
 |
Heres a picture based guide I have made for people worrying about cutting their carbon fibre bonnets up to install aerocatch bonnet catches
Ready to start in the freezing cold
This area seemed to be the best for mounting the pins, Drill them out with a 10mm drill bit -
Now Safety first, I couldnt find a dust mask so used my painting mask (ended up finding loads of dust masks when I finished!!) Also wear some goggles / glasses, dont want a chunk of dremel disc to the eye!! It was so cold I had a jumper on, hoody on, fleece on, hat on and hood up!!!
Cut this section of the inner skin out if you have a carbon bonnet, Cover your frunk up with a sheet as dust will go everywhere as I found out!!
Use some old bar as you dont want to start cutting you pins up yet incase you cut them too small!!. Cut this and bolt it so the bonnet almost closes. Apply a dot of grease to the middle of the bar, slowly close the bonnet onto it, lift bonnet back up and you should have a dot of grease, This is the centre point of your bonnet pin, Drill that dot with a small drill bit. slowly
Close the bonnet down and use the cross hair on the aerocatch template to mark out the centre of the hole. I drilled my hole bigger with a 10mm bit (worked my way upto this size) to make 100% sure it was the centre and it was as the threaded bar came through the hole no problem .
a good idea is to apply electrical tape to the Cross hairs on the aerocatch template as this will show you where you need to mount the template easier.
Apply some thick tape around the area just incase you slip!!
Set dremel to slow speed and dremel away, take your time, its actaully very easy to do!! Dont make it perfect as you will make a mistake most likely. I left mine like this for now.
Looks a mess. Get rid of the cutting disc and fit the round sander attachment. Sand all the excess off and make it nice and tidy looking
keep sanding till it fits
Repeat for the other side. I turned them upside down so I could line the other side up before dremelling it so I could make sure it was going to match
Done, just need to drill the holes and bolt them in.
Started snowing but I pressed on!! Was about -2 Deg C out their!!. Finished off putting the 12 screws / bolts / washers on and started on the bonnet pins. I cut them to size and mounted them and it all worked perfectly
Still need to get a finished shot but the cars covered in snow ![Razz [Razz]](images/smiles/icon_razz.gif) |
